School Council R eviews Actions By Tina Lewis The active Middle School Community Council met twice in the last two weeks, continuing the intensive weekly meetings they have had since school opened. Council Chairman Nancy McComb, principal Otis Falls and members of the council feel that they have made a great amount of progress, especially hi the area of communication. Dr. Falls commented that the council has been helpful in setting goals for this year and bettering communication communica-tion between teachers, parents and students. During the October 3rd meeting, the council itemized item-ized the positive actions being taken in the school, the areas that they liked and the things they wanted to see continued. The council decided de-cided that assembling a resource file for the teachers would be a specific project that would benefit everyone. Tina Lewis will serve as chairman of the resource project, assisted by Jo Scott and Peggy Black. The group hopes to gather a list of peoj-'e who have special skills, talents and experiences experienc-es and who would be willing to come into the classrooms to enrich the curriculum. it 00 itV 11) IVFAitciA Frank Vertuca Sue Williams m - m '(. (Only signed letters Highway Alternative Dear Citizens of Park City : After spending a short 3 years in Park City, I've met many good people and am watching them flee ' from the amazing change that PC has gone through in the last two years. I'm speaking of the growth, condomania and suburgia. I've talked to old timers who've said the town's downfall was when the resort was sold to "a bunch of them- Califor-nians." Califor-nians." I know of the large proportions of southern Californians that have moved here, but having done so myself, I cannot say that is the" root of the problem. Getting to the point, I was saddened to read that the highway meeting had no op-posers op-posers to show. I know of quite a few with level heads. I stand outside and try to imagine this town with a highway through the center of it. I've lived in San Diego, California and watched them fill in canyon after canyon with' highways. The environmental en-vironmental impact on the land and wildlife, the air quality, and mental well-being well-being of everyone who listens to cars drive by all day and night cannot be measured in the largest of reports or papers. In PC I think it's small enough to try to do something about it. I feel our planners may be accidentally acciden-tally overlooking an answer to a problem which is all but solved. I mean the railroad tracks that run parallel to the part of the proposed highway that runs up Easy Street. Everyone who owns a car has experienced the frustration of paying a dollar a gallon for gas. Let's give oursejves an alternative to driving our cars. Seeing as PC is becoming more city than park, we should stop to think about how we can really plan wisely for our controlled growth. The question is not "to stop or not to stop." It's evident and inevitable we're growing. Thanks Fire Dept. Editor: Not until it happens to you, yourself, do you feel the full appreciation for our wonderful wonder-ful volunteer fire department. depart-ment. With speed and skill, they not only saved our home but did so with a minimum of damage to our property. No bashed down doors, no hoses turned loose... just efficiency that contained the fire in one Light 'Superf luous' Editor: I think all the rhetoric about the location of Park City's first streetlight is just a bit superfluous. Since Utah drivers as a whole have vtuw if. - iwmrir 0M- mm awm fit I I v I r I I I will be published.) . I'm not prepared to slap down some development plans for train stations and don t know what kind ol transportation system would be the most feasible. But it's time to start thinking a step beyond the bank. Just for a second, stop and try to con sider a better alternative to get people to Deer Valley, which seems to be the major concern. I can't begin to oppose anything that has been ap proved while myself and others have stood by in disbelief, saying and doing nothing. But I will try to stop a serious wrong being done to my home. A highway through town is not the answer. Let's try to cut down the number of autos that flow through our small town. There is more flavor to PC than just mining. Let's step out of our cars long enough to listen to the quiet of the night, and the hills around our home. It is bound to motivate us to a proper course of action. You can't refurbish a creek that has been touched by a bulldozer. bull-dozer. There is a grave upset on the balance of the streams eco-system. It's true PC relies heavily on the tourist trade, (not to say this is good or bad) just fact. But we have to think about ourselves and the time we spend in our area of residence. Do we want to listen to engines and breathe exhaust all year long? I've had more than enough this summer alone. Please stop before all the people with a desire for the quality of life flee this town. Many have already done so. If anyone has a desire to help me search for a better alternative than a highway, (some form of mass transit), let's make it happen. I'd like to hear your feedback. I'm not trying to criticize, just trying to improve. Make your voice heard. No insults please, it serves no purpose. Sincerely, Kathleen Kilgallon Box 142 place.
