Lead hold an important part in the aft of war and peace, and I a baic metal of our udjtrial wotld of to all ion day, it ue enter into a1mot re everyday romimditie, and seldom turn after Iwing uwl, to le retold upon the market of the world. in In the art of war, lead I ot all the munition in the engine warfare, and we trace it um- - even into the Dark Aire, when It served a an instrument of torture, in the molten It ad torture of the day of the In it uv? in quisition, hut fortunately term equall) the Art of iVace have Important, and we find It uwd unto thia day, a base for manifold thing in Art. Hut now aliove all of these uses, it serve in the multiple industries that this Mechanical Aye has and it production lotlav hard y keeps pace with it consumption. Utah hold an imjKirtanl place in the worlds record of lesd production, and the consistent production of its mines have been the bai of an industrial growth within the state of primary importance. The uses of lead is not diminishing but instead increasing, and new deposits are sought every year to feed the Industries of the world with this staple of the mineral world, so in substance may I not appeal to all within thi area to give thought to this all important mineral? My observations of the area are not for the benefit of any one property, but mainly to serve without prejudice all within the area who are interested in lead ore developments, as Urn-fitin the development of a mining district is derived only in ratio to the applied locally. Ores that can produce basic industrial returns within an area is worthy of the best consideration from all. so do not look upon the prospector within your area, purely as a dreamer, but as a potential factor in the finding of minerals of the area, and to that end I believe that prospecting for lead ores can lead to beneficial results, considering the definite showings already made bv the Salina Lead Zinc Co., in its exploration work, near Redmond, and all these are the making of an industrial nucleus of the araes near these localities, if properly nursed to the productive stage. Very few of us in the intermountain country of the West, realize that one of the basic industries of the middle West is the lead mines of the Fields, that comprises Missouii. Kansas, Oklahoma, and as industries move westward, as they are surely, today as exanipled in the industrial growth of Los Angeles, the need for raw materials are also moving westward, and by nature of geological conditions governing the intermountain country, these areas contain Important lead deposits, and in which Utah stands first, and this area can add to Utah production, if proper thought is given its possible deposits. I am not backward in saying that Southern Utah will some day in the near future be a feeder for raw products to the Southern California markets, as it holds a stragetic position in that direction, and therefore should be ready to develop its raw materials to the point of being able to produce when the time comes in the not far distant future, and lead ores form an important branch of raw materials, I believe, will be found and developed in these two counties, and no town has a better position to benefit from such development than Salina, Richfield, Redmond and Gunnison. An opportunity legitimately developed is useful to all, and benefits all proportionately. No one can afford to pass up the development of raw materials within this area, as the day will come when it will be a necessity and not an opportunity. I stress at length upon the general notes of this subject because I know the importance of lead ores in industries, and with everything at the door of this area to make ideal working and competitive conditions possibte in results, it follows then that mining development should be carried on to its highest point. Development of mineral resource? and no means greater resource can be asked of Nature than basic ores, such as lead.
