Show dixie shows up well at the state fair mr J R wallis editor washington county st george utah dear sir 1 I ira im attaching hereto an article from the deseret news under date of october ath with cut ot of our booth at the state fair which I 1 thought might be of interest dixie as usual as far as in terest was concerned con cernel rece receive ivel 1 the praise of ill visitors in the horti cultural building for the choice collection of products wh ch ell grow only in thit tivit section homr to mr thos judd vis e i 1 and arranged that portion of t the be exhibit is due unlimited credit and thanks for the attractive display also for the care ind attention he paid to at our booth explaining pla ining all about dixie during fair week cannot help but feel the results from these exhibits will repay the efforts of mr judd and our dixie friends many times over yours truly J H MANDER manderfeld FULD the article from the deseret N eats s follows the salt lake route has this year duplicated its successful its of several years past in the agn agri cultural building at the state fair grounds and in many respects the exhibit is more beautiful and im than ever before there are exhibits in separate di visions oi of the big corner both mccu pied by the salt lake route from washington millard beaver and iron counties and from the newcastle project and the malone co apora tive experimental farm in each is shown prize winning specimens of grain fruits nuts and N vegetables ege tables separate Sep arite showcases are devoted to exhibited of grains and other pro ducts duet notably from the zephi ex pen peri mental farm which has hasp prodoc ed a wide variety of fine grains and the farm of thomas judd sons at La Verkin utah from which are entered pomegranates nuts and a selection of tropical and semi trop leal real fruits and products of other sorts in all the dixie section of utah has contributed largely lo 10 the display i t showing sho NNing of paper shel led almonds being noteworthy other showcases are given to the di displays s of individual growers one cae cale ca e containing an especially fine ex hibit of apples irom from the orchal Is of IV H homer at pleasant ale gigant grove the display of products from balne experimental farm is very interesting this farm comprises a tract of 20 acres 17 miles north of milford 1111 ford reaver beaver county utah in the Es Eq calanta valley and those in te rested in the farm ire the utah conservation commission corn mission the utah agricultural college the salt lake route U S deportment of agn culture fairbanks morse corn com ganv and the utah oil refining company the display contains many apeci mens of grain and vegetables raised on the tract through irrigation of the surface acreage by underground water which is found at aiom 15 tor to 60 feet belo the surface according to the depth of the wells so far sunk the exact flow of water must vet yet be ber determined to a certainty though the experimenters have proved the fe feasibility of their plan of irrigation and have obtained a flow of gallons a minute sufficient to irrigate 96 acres As the display in the tile booths of V the salt lake route comes from ft widely sep isted ted localities along the line of the road it may be considered exhibit of as a comprehensive products and progress in the farming communities in the western an 11 4 southwestern portions of the tho ate iii fl iw 1 |
