The puppets are on loan from the International Puppetry Museum in Pasadena, California. Many of the puppets are famous, having starred on stage and even in films. The collection includes stringed marionettes, rod puppets, and some hand puppets. All are hand-crafted works of art created to tell a story. According to Lynne Goodwin, Executive Director of Treehouse, the exhibit is sure to spark some guessing games about which story and which country sets of puppets on display represent. “Some will be fairly easy to identify,” said Goodwin, citing Snow White and her dwarves and Alice and the White Rabbit. “But others will be more challenging to guess. The puppets represent stories from around the world Alan Cook with puppets. and some stories will be less familiar to our visitors. We hope families and school groups will want to read a little more about the puppets discover a new favorite story.” Most of the puppets will be displayed in specially built cases throughout the Museum, but Treehouse will make sure that there are plenty of hands-on activities, too. “There will be lots of new puppets at the Museum for children to play with, and lots of puppet making happening in the Art Garden,” said Goodwin. “In fact, every Saturday in April, May, and June we’ll be making a different of kind of puppet with visitors that they can take home. And, there will be demonstrations and workshops and, of course, puppet performances.” Puppeteer Randel McGee from California, a Treehouse favorite, was at Treehouse to perform right after the ribbon cutting ceremony of the display that was held Saturday, April 3. A performance of McGee’s puppet show will be held April 30 at 7:00 p.m. and May 1 at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. The show is free with admission to the Museum but seating for performances is limited. Thanks to Mr. Weight for teaching us how to dance, on Valentine’s Day we were able to dance and have a great time. Mr. Weight taught us lots of cool dance moves and fun techniques. We danced for a very long time and had a food table with lots of Valentine’s treats. Here are some opinions from some of the sixth grade students, and their thoughts about the dance. “I thought it was so much fun! I think we should do it again!” said Rachel VanLeer. From the boys there were “yeahs” and “ughs,” and lots of other “it was o.k.” answers. “I thought it was way fun; dancing was O.K. but fun,” said Maryn Preston. Anders Johnson said that it was both fun and kind of boring. Well, you can tell that girls loved it more than the guys. The sixth graders danced and danced ‘til the end of school, and, in my opinion, the decorations were great! The sixth grade would like to thank Mr. Weight and the parents who helped to make this dance fun. Mark Your Calendar for Referees: AYSOA Registration! It is that time of year again!
