And while it is it might be well to & know what it is, how it came, what it has done, and why it is falling. T ie Maker of earth had a leading hand in governing J luring the early periods, but men were always in rebellion So sometime after the flood He turned the government over to man, knowing full well what a mess he would make of it. It wha was Nimrod, great grandson of Noah, who began the system h5v, called Babylon when he founded the empires of Babylon and Assyria. He set up the real beginnings of the capitalistic i world order with us social, economic, government and religi-,pl- e. ous functions. His successor, Nebuchadnezzar, perfected this world order. He set up a great golden image and the gold Hi! standard money system and ordered his subjects to adopt it and worship it. He was given a charter to rule by himself and j0K his son and his son's sons, for a period of 2520 years, with of 4; ficial title of Zar This time limit was up in 1918, and then and there began the fall of Babylon, which means the com uiercial system of the world, the false religions and the ;nstj. tutions not in harmony with the divine plan. World War 1 n did its part; World War 2 will do the rest just as literally as re John the Revelator tolls it. The kingdoms that grew out of Nebuchadnezzar's rule have perished, the Ceasers, the Tsars the Czars, the Kaisers etc. Dictators have come to power' but they too will pass. Personal Clair Duane Olsen, grandson, will leave next Monday to en-ter the naval training scoool at Farragut, Iddio. And thns the w ir affects us all every soul on earth. Neighbor Sagris, Mgr. of the Sagris Photo Co., found us the other day and replenished our purse a little, which was thin because it had just been flat- - rent. You should go to his stu-dio at 174 -2 So. Main and see the fine work he does and then get you some of it Friend James Martin reach-ed his 77th milestone last week. You wouldn't have believed he could have gone that far if you had seen him slaving from dawn to dusk in the coal mines of England during his early and tender years. Con-gratulations. Turn Thoughts to Motherhood, the Purest, Tendered Thing on Earth How our heart bleeds for the motherhood of this dying old world. They are on the cross in a new Calvary. On this year's Mothers' Day we can give to motherhood nothing better than the following sto'ry about an angel visit to earth to find the one thing that was fit to take and that would en-dure forever in the glory of heaven a mother's love. One calm, bright, sweet sunshiny day, an angel stole ' out of heaven and came down to this old world, and roamed field and forest, town "and hamlet, and just as the sun went down he plumed his wings and said: "Now my visit is out, and I must go back to the world of light, but before I go I must get some memento of my visit here." And he looked over into a beautiful flower garden, and said, "How lovely and fragrant these flowers are, and he plucked the rarest roses and made a bouquet, and said:,"I see nothing more beautiful and fragrant than these. I will take them with me." But he looked a little further, and there he saw a little brighteyed, rosy cheeked babe, smiling into its mother's face, and he said: "Oh, that baby's smile is prettier than this bouquet, I will take that, too." Then he looked .just beyond the cradle, and there was a mother's love pouring out like the gush of a river toward the cradle and baby, and he said, "Oh, that mother's love is the prettiest thing I have seen on earth, I will carry that too." With the three treasures he winged his way to the pearly gates, and lit just on the outside, and said, "before I go in, I will examine my mementos." And he looked at the flowers, and they had withered ; and he looked at the baby's smile and it had faded away. He looked at the mother's love, and there it was in all its pristine beauty and fragrance. He threw away the withered flowers, and the faded smile, and winged his way through the gatss, and led all the hosts of Heaven together, and exclaimed: "Here is the only thing I found on earth that would keep its fragrance all the way to Heaven a Mother's Love." .... jr Make the Most of This David Lawrence's "U. S. News" stated : "Dominating motive in congress right now is helping groups that want to get rich. William Allen White, after his recent visit has written "These international combinations of industrial capital are fierce troglodyte animals with termendous power no " social brains. They hover like the old silurian reptiles about our decent, more or less, Christian civilization like great dragons in this modern day when dragons are supposed to be dead." Vice president Wallace has recently declared that if, after the war j riches agnin remain in the hands of the few, the war will have been in vain and democracy will have failed. Rats In Washington, Salt Lake j They have found great numbers of big, fat rats in some of the office buildings in Washington and they have proceed-ed to kill some of them. But be assured they won't kill all of them. And they have found large numbers in Salt Lake, all big, fat and sleek. But of course these have not come from any of the public offices where everything is at all times clean and healthful and, like Ceaser's wife, above suspi-cion. This is all we have to say about rats and we pass it on for Peter Spraynozzle and Joe Bush to hold a conference over it. Congratulations to Com. Boden. Both the man and the party are to be congratulated on the selection of Roscoe Boden for Democratic State Chairman. This may riot assure a victory deal, but we believe it assures an honest ideal, and that's -- omething in politics. From C. V. Hansen To show that Neignbor C. V. Hansen is doing a lot of good with his writings read the following just received by him "My husband used toidrink. But about two years ago I persuaded him to go to church with me. He njoyed it. He went every Sunday for two years. He ceased drinking after he started to church. About two months ago he left his regu-lar employment andsecpr.ed work at a defense plant where he received higher wages. Those in his department drank and they insisted that he drink with them. The leader pressed fcr a reason why he didn't drink. He remarked that his wife was opposed to it. From then on he was labelled a "hen pecked husband." This was more than he could bear and so he started drinking again. He's drunk every week end, in fact he's drunk right now while I am writing to you. I am very unhappy. Please pray for me. A wife. Take -- Off for Land of Rising Sun " 7S .... "'Wswi. .''!:'., j "j. Vk. ; This photo was made as a 5 (Mitchell) bomher took to the air from the pitching deck of the U. S. carrier Hornet, to give the people of the rising sun a taste of war on their own islands. It shows the bomber climbing into a gray sky. The raid, made from low altitude by Gen. Jimmy Doolittle's men, caused large fires and great damage. Americans everywhere were aroused to overwhelming anger at the announcement that the Japs executed some of the eight fliers captured after the bombing. Settle Strike By Removing Cause. If It Comes Look for Civil Strife and Invasion It is well that the threatened coal strike has been halted, at least temporarily. The darkest cloud that looms on the horizon of the United States is that of a civil conflict be-tween capital and labor. Early Mormon prophets, and others, have-predrr- ted it in great detail, and according to them it will be terrible indeed so terrible that it will break down the government and practically destroy the civilization built up upon this goodly land. And because of this internal con-flict there will be an invasion by the enemy as told in one part of Washington's vision, which is as follows : "The dark and shadowy angel placed a trumpet to his mouth and blew three distinct blasts, and taking water from the ocean he sprinkled it out upon Europe, Asia and Africa. Then my eyes looked upon a fearful scene! From each of these countries arose think black clouds, which soon joined into one ; and through this mass gleamed a dark, red light, by which I saw hordes of armed men moving with the cloud, marched by land and sailed by the seas to America, which country was presently enveloped in the volume of the cloud. And I dimly saw these vast armies devastate the whole country, and pillage and burn the villages, cities and towns, which I had beheld springing up. As my ears listened to the thundering of cannon, clashing of swords, and shouts and cries of millions in mortal combat, I again heard the myster-ious voice saying, 'Son of the Republic, look and learn." To Mr. Lewis and the operators, we say that if this pro-posed strike is carried out and continued it will lead to just what Washington saw. Be wise, O men, in your deliberations, lest your actions tear down the temple which has been so gloriously builded. To those who are complaining about ra-tioning and ceilings, etc., and to those who are dissatisfied with everything, just keep it up and one day, not very dis-tant, you will take your rationing out of the hands of the reptillian brown men, who will serve you like they have the Chinese. You don't believe it? Neither did Babylon. There is apparently no Noah to warn the people that the day of burn-ing, which is here, will be as cleansing and destructive as was the day of the flood. Can't we see by now that they alone will never rid the world ofits evils? Can we not yet understand that no matter of 'man-mad- e laws or no quantity of force man might conceive can ever give us the peace or security that all people of the world desire so much, much less free-- . dom or happiness anywhere ? We have put a lot of trust in these things but just what have they accomplished? Consider how the integrity of the "home," foundation of our American life, has been dissolved; how prohibition was erased by bootlegging ; how labor is being strangled by its own labor unions; how all governments in time resolve into more politics than justice; how we are fighting now to black markets ; how youthful vandalism is destroying com-sa'- ve what we fought for in the first war ; how our present-da- y rationing is largely nulified by lack of and munity peace, and the story goes on and on. What's wrong? Is it not that we have not had faith in the right things ? There can never be peace or security in the world without unity. And there never can be unity with-out love. Love alone gives understanding to people's hearts and minds and makes them one in purpose and thought. Love is the force that awakens the desire in hearts for good and beautiful living. It is the quality that causes one to choose the way of peace and security for- all if informed as to what those ways are. Thus brotherhood is the only salvation of the world. Brotherhood is the spirit that will cause the farmers of the world to raise all the food within their power. It is the spirit that will make the workers of all industries feel a sacred obligation to produce up to the maximum. It is the spirit that will cause the commercial world to respect ceil-ing prices and ration laws, and be willing to gain a little less that all may be more secure at the termination of the war. It will cause government and military officials to exercise extreme efficiency and economy that the world may not be crushed tomorrow by today's debt. Brotherhood is the spirit that will bring all those who believe .... to love our neighbors as ourselves. |
