Show FEDERAL CONTRACTS ARE CANCELED HERE Orders for Spruce Section of War Department Discontinued Dis-continued by Local Firm. Checking of airplane construction opera op-era tfons by the war department has caused cancellation of all contracts held in Halt !Lake connected with that branoh of war work. There has been no cancellation cancel-lation of contracts having to do with the building of f-hipa, however. The American Foundry & Machine company has just received orders from the apruco section of the whr department depart-ment to cease the construction of logging log-ging engines, designed to be used In northern and western spruce timber sections. The original contract was for 300 of these engines, but the company was only able to complete and ship fifteen fif-teen on the order before cancellation was , received. j Substantial Indication that the govern-i govern-i meiit proposes to continue Its shipbuilding shipbuild-ing program Is found in the fact that no contracts, held by local foundries, for the construction of parts necessary to the : equipment of cftre;o-carrying bottoms have j even been curtailed. The American Foundry & Machine company is continuing continu-ing the construction of submarine rammers, ram-mers, windlasses or cargo hoists, marine castings, and similar work. The Salt Lake Iron & Steel company is still employed em-ployed on a ship propeller contract, and this week will start on an engagement' to make forty heavy ship windlasses. lire American Foundry & Machine company com-pany has still to make ten submarine rammero on Its contract of about thirty and is just starting work on a contract calling1 for the completion of 130 windlasses, wind-lasses, or cargo hoists. In addition, the concern has agreed to make a number of propeller struts, or big bearings for propeller pro-peller shafts. These castings ae made In sets of two, weighing 22,000 pounds a set. The first set was shipped last Friday, Fri-day, and shipments will follow each week in future. The Salt Lake Iron & Steel company has made and shipped thirty ship propellers propel-lers on a contract of forty-two. Ship windlasses to be made by this company will be shipped at a rate of three each month, until the agreement with the emergency fleet corporation la fulfilled, or the order Is countermanded by the g"OV-ernmpnt, g"OV-ernmpnt, First shipments will be made during this month. |
