Downs, and has been stationed at Fort Old, California. Veil Kawlings, son of Mr. and .Mrs. Lee Kawlings has been sever-ly sever-ly burned. He is stationed in the West Indies and has been taken to the base hospital. Private and Mrs. Elwood Sundberg Sund-berg left Thursday evening for San Diego, California, where Private Pri-vate Sundberg will resume his duties with the U. S. Marines, after spending a few days here. Private Sundberg was called home to attend the funeral of his father Isaac V. Sundberg. Private Leslie Neves has returned return-ed to Camp Mackall, North Carolina, Car-olina, after visiting with his parents par-ents Mr. and Mrs. Wilford Neves. Private Neves is a Paratrooper in the U. S. army. Private Tyler Rogers returned Friday of last week to Siour Falls, after visitng here with his wife and his parents Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Rogers. After reporttng back to Jlls station, Private Rogers will go east, and will enter Yale University Univer-sity for advanced training. Bert Lindstrum Jr. son of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Lindstrum, is here for a short visit with his parents. Bert entered the V. S. Navy two months a?o, and is receiving his basic training at Farragut, Idaho. Sgt. Perneal N. Shoell has been on a short leave. His wife will: and Mrs. Win. Prestwich. His wife, the former Lois Foulke remained here to visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Foulke for about two months. Sergeant and Mrs. Glen Lystrup were honored last Friday evening at the home of Sergeant Lystrup's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lystrup. Ly-strup. A large group of relatives and friends enjoyed the evening in visiting, playing games and re-rcshments. re-rcshments. Mrs. Ida Smith of this city tc-mcently tc-mcently received a letter telling of the thrilling experiences of her grandson Owen Smith Jr. of the V. S. Navy. Having enlisted in the U. S. Navy, some-time before the U. Si entered the war, Young Smith was at Pearl Harbor when the Japs made their attack. He later participated in the battle of Java, took part in 3 major battles bat-tles in the Solomon Islands, and the- battle of New Guinea For each of these feats he has been decorated and received the Presidential Presi-dential citation for outstanding duty. In all, the young man snent sixteen months in the South Pacific Paci-fic conflict area, and has now been sent with his shio to the European theater of war. Johnson has been transferred trans-ferred from Sheppard Field, Texas to the Arkansas Teachers College for training in the air corps. Pfc. Lloyd Swensen is enjoying a two weeks furlough here with his mother Mrs. Emma Swensen. Pfc. Swensen is with the U. S. Army Ordinanc Dept. and is stationed in Alaska, and will return to his duties dut-ies October 22. ; ' r |
