A gentleman of this city yesterday, received from Madison, Wis., a package carefully done up and presenting the appearance of containing some articles of great value. The wrappers were torn and displayed a beautiful box inlaid with pearl and ivory mountings. His eyes sparkled at the sight of the gift, which he at once guessed came from one who though far away, was kept in dearest remembrance by him. He conjured up the holy recollections of days, when he and a fair maiden whose name and image were treasured in some corner of his manly heart, wandered along the banks of the lake near by her cottage home. "Though lost to sight yet to memory dear," he thought. The box was carefully opened by his tremulous fingers, when he found a mitten. Xmas Preparations.
