Ogden Nature Center Celebrates Earth Day! me to improve my own life and create my own The Ogden Nature Center is holding its annual proceeds going to the creators/artists. This By Greg Reynolds Beginning Wednesday, May 2, and continuing each Wednesday thereafter thru May23, a series of free classes will be held in Huntsville at the Ogden Valley Branch of the Weber County Library. The classes, designed to help you achieve your goals, will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. each Wednesday in May. Have you ever felt like, in spite of your best efforts, you just never seem to be able to reach your goals? Or maybe some bad habit just seems too strong and, in spite of your best efforts, you can’t seem to break it? Or, have you ever wanted to make more money or lose weight or just simply be happy but it feels like the world is conspiring against you and you can’t make any progress? Do you ever feel like God’s promised blessings of prosperity and joy and peace seem to work for other people but not for you? If you are human, you probably said yes to at least one of these questions. I have been the king of struggle for the majority of my life, but with the help of a mentor, I have learned some techniques that have allowed me to overcome bad habits and improve my life in incredible ways, and now I’ve started reaching my goals—I’ve started making more money, and I’ve gained more hope and happiness. I am teaching a series of four free classes to help people learn and understand the same principles and techniques that have allowed dreams. In this course, we will learn the following: • How the brain works and techniques to harness the power of the brain (one of God’s most powerful and greatest gifts to us) to help us achieve our dreams instead of that power working against us. • Three ways we communicate with the world around us and how we can, unknowingly, sabotage our success and relationships with the messages we don’t even realize we may be sharing. • Techniques on how to improve the messages we are sharing. • How to develop habits and techniques to replace those bad habits • How to feel happiness and peace in a chaotic world • Techniques to improve mental and physical health • Techniques to increase focus and more effectively reach goals This course is not just a feel-good, motivational course. Yes, it will be motivational, and you will likely feel good, but the greatest power of the course is learning and applying the techniques that can make real change in one’s life. Note: While this course has a reference to God, the techniques work well for all people— religious or not! Open Call for Artists Ogden City is seeking submissions from artists of any kind to create conceptual designs for the Painted Streets Project. The Creative District Painted Streets project is a pilot project that will consist of a painted center lane on 25th Street and four painted crosswalks at the intersection of 25th Street and Adams Avenue. The goal of the project is to increase street-level activity and vibrancy on 25th Street, east of Washington Boulevard. Additionally, the project is intended to increase public engagement with the arts and to begin establishing the identity of the Creative District. Artists may submit designs for the center lane on 25th Street, the four crosswalks at 25th Street and Adams Avenue, or both areas. Designs for the two areas will be evaluated independently and designs from a single artist may be selected for both areas. Submissions will first be vetted by Ogden City for compliance with the design guidelines. City staff and members of the Creative District Steering Committee and the Ogden City Arts Advisory Committee will then score the designs. The three highest-scored designs for both areas will be publicly displayed and community members will vote to select a final design for each area. The artists who submit the winning designs will help to develop a plan for painting the street (e.g., using stencils, chalking or taping areas to be painted, etc.), and will provide oversight during the painting process. Ogden City will work with community organizations to form volunteer teams that will each be responsible for painting a section of the street. The painting is expected to occur between June 18 and June 23, 2018, to coincide with several events that increase street-level activity in the area (Twilight Concert, PLATFORMS event, and Farmers Market Ogden). A small celebration will be held upon completion of the project to recognize the artists and volunteers. Ogden City and its partners will promote the project and encourage community members to visit the site during the painting and after completion. Artist Honorarium to Be Awarded A $1,000 artist honorarium will be awarded for two designs—one for Section 1, the crosswalk designs at the intersection of Adams and 25th; and one for Section 2, the road area design on 25th between Washington and Adams. A single artist may be selected for both areas. If designs from a single artist are selected for both areas, that artist shall receive both honoraria for a total of $2,000.
