Show HELPER The PAGE FOUR (Utah) a chapter titled Iron Men JOURNAL THURSDAY, MARCH 7, 1968 SCHOOL NEWS FROM of and overcame Sports. The chapter consisted of short biographical sketches telling the lite of great men in sports. Babe Ruth, Bob George Gipp, Knute Rockne, Red Huntlv. Jackie Robinson, Jim Thorpe and Glen Cunningham were included. As the life of each sports j gure was read, the students1 took time for discussion. The pupils learned that many of these great sports figures came from very poor families and had to work hard for what they achieved. Many werevery sickly or had something physically wrong with them. However with determination, patience, ambition and practice, they overcame their handicaps and became some of the sports personalities. People admire these men for how well they play their sport. However, they should be admired for how they raised themselves up Ma-tnia- Late But Not Forgotten by Kathy Milovich Students have been working' hard this last quarter to achieve high grades in citizenship and scholarship. Outstanding students achieving all A's or all A's and one B were: Jan Riddle, Diane Porter, Sandra Draper, Michael Tamllos, Kay la Kabonic, Cecile Jackson, Helen VanNafi'a, Susan Olsen, Ronald Hall, Marsha Bianco, Rebecca Tabone, and Oarl Pollastro, 8th grade; Carryl Carlson, Joyce Porter, Kendra Tomsic, Marie Truscott, Rebecca Fazzio, Sher-r- i Heino, Carolyn Howell, Eve I i M ' , lyn Ockey and Jan Turri, 7th grade. Children and grown-up- s don't require as much food as Mrs. Young, the teacher, gave the girls an interesting assignment. They are to write down what they have for breakfast, lunch, supper, and snacks for four days. They will then see if they are getting enough of each kind of food. Another assignment that was given to divide into groups and write down what they would like to have for breakfast, lunch, and supper. They then found pictures of the food and report to t h e class on their meals. What Is A Pin For? by Carryl Carlson A Rampage pin is for the students belonging to the Rampage club. They are bought as a memory of this club. This year pins for the first year members are to be gold with a year guard connected. The second year members will purchase a year guard to attach to last year's pin. Impossible you think? Well, it isn't impossible in Mrs. Olsen's art classes! The students bring burlap sacks and a piece of cardboard for this project. The burlap must be two inches wider all the way around than the piece of cardboard. The first step is to rub watery glue onto the cardboard. Next, the students put the burlap on it and leave it overnight to dry. The students are now ready to draw a picture on the burlap. After this process is completed, they get some yarn and glue it on the outline. Then the students fill In the outline. When this process is complete, the students, pictures are finished. Pairing off in groups of two, the pupils then proceed to type as fast as they can without worrying about errors. After the writings, geared to increase speed, come another type of timed writing, which aid in allowing the students to make fewer errors but write at a good tempo. In these writings also, the students are competing. What can be more helpful to a person than a change in a class or an added motive? This is the very idea of Mrs. Postma's new proced ure. Fun Way To Learn by Jan Turri The seventh grade home eco- nomics class is going to start cooking soon so they have been learning about food as a start. The girls have learned that there are four main groups of food, the meat group, the dairy group, the fruits and vegetable group, and the bread and cereal group.
