Show JOHN L EDWARDS WRITES OF TRIP recently I 1 made a trip up to ta clifton Cl ilton baho to visit my gaugh daughter ter sirs mrs heber anderson and family who have a ranch and summer home at that place I 1 boarded the oregon short line train at willard wallard Wll lard saturday morning july 28 and the ride through box elder county was a delight deli glit for the glorious panorama which stretched away on each side of the railroad shows how bounteous tile the crops are and what wonders can be accomplished under irrigation the scenery through bear river canyon is fine and I 1 advise all people who have an ail opportunity to pass thru that canyon to sit on oil the side ot of the train next to the river so that they can look down from the high trestle on to the bear river which is winding I 1 its way through tile the rocks the he reservoir is full of water and the big canals on each side of the river are carrying all they can hold at cache junction the the road roa d forks the main line going off to the north which was my route rauie I 1 stopped at trenton to pay a visit to our grist mill I 1 say our mill enill as a number of willard people have stock in the institution A little history lof of th the emill mill might be interesting so I 1 will tell you that in early days I 1 used to travel back and forth from willard to 10 battle creek withey stock i and used to stop at the home hame of my good friend B Y benson A cliot time ago he was telling me that beanda he and a number of hla his frie friends nils were trying to raise enough money to build a griss mill at trenton and I 1 told him to come down to willard and I 1 thought I 1 could secure him some stockholders when I 1 went home I 1 talked with a few of my neighbors and we had ul a i little meeting at which brother benson was present we subscribed for a third of the entire stock and B Y benson was made president with H TP etersen as secre tar and manager and P A as our representative on the lioard board of directors to my disappointment mr petersen was in salt lake city attending the millers convention and mr air benson was in logan sister benson and her daughter luella were at home and made me welcome and very shortly here came dieber andersen Anderso ir in his automobile with his and all the children to meet me we had a fine trip through cornish weston dayton to clifton some 20 miles I 1 tell you west cache is coming to the front since they got that dyphon built across bear river from mink creek my son in law laws s 1 ranch lays way up on the mountainside mountain side above clifton and there is a fine view from this place of upper cache valley and preston which looks beautiful at night when it is all lit up anve took a trip over to treasureton reton for many years was my old stamping ground we v mt ly way of oxford tafe ali e party consisting of heber anderson Anderso nr the chauffeur his wife and children irvine vernon and 11 master faster reed and your humble servant because ot of the fearful rain storms which they recently had the roads were was washed hed out but we finally arrived at treasureton reton which now consists of a store and school house aud and meeting house we visited many place sand then drove down the creek to the ranch of my old friend george sant jr then came acro across 4 the valley past the old church farm which was purchased by frank armstrong of salt lake 0 what fine cattle cat alo they used to have mostly the red durham kind kind the road then led us to babida banida and coulam contain station to clifton the roads wei were e pretty bad baa in places placed and there was lots of mud and water but our old Stud studebaker baker six was powerful and and with a good man at the wheel we arrived home sale safe after an eventful v en tiu 1 day I 1 told heber I 1 would like to visit the high peak above oxford d it if he would let me have a gentle saddle pony but lie told in me e I 1 could not nal reach the top without a guide but would get lost lie he finally told me he was going goine up to one of 0 his sheep herds in ilk a day or so and I 1 could go along so on thursday we we started out aut heber took the lead and I 1 a little ways tor to see if 1 he could locate one ot of his camps 0 what a 3 grand and glorious view I 1 looked to tile the east and saw tile ra mountain peaks in wyoming and I 1 could follow the cache valley range iowa down to preston F franklin krichm richmond end smithfield hyde park and logan the queen city ot at that rich and productive valley then I 1 could see tile the Bri brichant ghant and willard peaks and naturally my eye would follow across west and I 1 could see the peaks of mountains in nevada right below me on oil the west lay the malad valley and city cily where so many or of my countrymen first settled and wore the pioneers of 0 that valley vats vals there were the jones evana evan S davis and others and one man comes very prominent before my mind daniel daniels a man that I 1 knew in the old country and I 1 think he was one ot of the best men that over ever lett left wales come to ani am come to ani am to cross the atlantic and erica looking down on both sides of me ine the vallies looked like checker boards as the grain is getting ripe I 1 had a little book in my pocket out ot of which I 1 tore a leaf and wrote on it this peak was visited by john L edwards of willard wallard Wll lard utah on oil august 2 1917 in ills his eightieth year I 1 got two hat flat rocks folded the paper between them took a little american hag flag I 1 had in ili my pocket and an had b to one of the callips and had a line fine lunch and then returned home the view from the top of that peak is one of 0 the grandest I 1 have ever seen and tile beautiful valley below Is rich in grain and I 1 believe that these counties vill do their share this year lit in feeding the world heber and family drove me down to hienton Ti enton when alien I 1 returned home and ve ue v e cattle came past the west cache sugar falory is now being erected there is a big force of men and teams al at L bork and everybody are busy as bees as they want int to have ha ve the factory done in time to
