Show Mexico is not a well -watered couutry ami our people have not the best of wat,er-rights, but we are trying to obtain the right to water. There is mu ch good land jthat can be cultivated and there , is a market for all wo raise. .Very little land has been farmed by the people but we are trying to get better facilities fa-cilities for farming. The land is high, yet the climate is mild and timber in abundance Where the Mexicans would not go with less than from 40 to 50 men on account of a fear they have of the Indians, our people go just a3 they choose without any one being be-ing molested. There is no lack of employmen t; it is not always high wages, yet they make a fair living. Freighting is good in Jexico, and the roads are good. Our people are better satisfied today than they ever have been. They have not had to endure the hardships in set- had been highly interested in the conference juBt closed At Sail Lake City and was well paid for the trip and said he was not privileged with'being at the Sunday meeting as he had to assist in making preparations pre-parations for the funeral of Sister Minerva Snow in the 18th IFard Meeting House, wherethere were over 50 of the decendents of Prest. After the usual preliminaries Pre3t. D. D. McArthur said in substance, I am pleased to see so many of you here this afternoon to hear what we have to say about our general conferance. VVe had a very good conferance. Nothing particular new was given, but we had very good teaching by the . speakers and a very good spirit was manifest all through the con-t con-t ference. There was a large turn out of the people, the Tabernacle was fall as also the Assembly Hall. , . Said the teachings was to the effect that the Saints must listen to the council of those who are nlaced to nreside over us in the tling that country that were encountered en-countered in setling this and other counties, and although they are a long way from the body of the church, it is necessary that some bo on the front and it is right that they h6ld fast to that which they have obtained We should be very careful that we do our duty and keep the commandments of God and keep ourselves pure and teach the principles of the gospel to our fellow man, that through the aton-ment aton-ment of Christ we may so order dur lives that we are worthy to receive re-ceive the blessings God has in x . church both in temporal as well as , spiritual affairs, and that the church members must be subject to those whom God has placed to lead us and we need not neglect our duty to the state as citizens of the state by keeping the laws of God. There never was a time that we did not have a calm after a storm; and now the wy is opened for a great many of our. elders to go to the nations of the earth to carry the good news " of the gospel to mankind. The presidency are advising ad-vising those who have charge of j the saints in the stakes and wards and the teachers are required to to be diligent in looking after the saints that none may be lost. The people are asked to pay their tithing and their offerings that the poor may be looked after. The gospel must be preached, as the nations of the earth must be warned warn-ed by this people who hold the holy priesthood. I desire that we may have the light of the spirit to guide us aright, that we may be j prepared tp receive the blessings that God has in store for us as his store for us. As the earth has to be cultivated and the weeds kept down so we should cultivate ourselves our-selves and keep the weeds of sin from getting the advantage of our spirits and by so doing we will gain the favor of God. A great majority major-ity of the people of old Mexico are Roman Catholics and have been for generations. The musses oE the people are ignorant of the scriptures, and as a people, they are led by the priests. Now how is it with us; are we' what we profess to be? We boldly i say to the world that God has re-, vealed himself to this people, and that by baptism and strict obedience obedi-ence to the gospel we will be accepted ac-cepted of the Lord. Although we : are imperfect in many ways, yet when we are doing all we can id keep the laws and ordinances of the gospel, we know that God is very merciful to us and we should be diligent in keeping the laws of God as we know them. If this gospel is the power of God unto salvation, as we know it is,then it is our duty to let our words bethe words of honesty as also our works, as it is people. A. W. Ivins, president of the Jexican Mission, said, I am thankful thank-ful to my father in heaven for this privilege of meeting with you hero to-day. The feeling of calling this place my home hangs with me as this is where I have spent the most of my early manhood. IFTiile I have been absent from you, in Mexico, Mex-ico, I have had many pleasent recollections re-collections of yo a here. There are eight settlements of Saints in Mexico. I visited all of them and I found some who have not been visited by any of the leaders of the church and yet I find the same epiiit manifest among them all as exists among all the saints. That is, they ar seeking to keep the commandments of God and are Btriving to live their religon. our duty to show by our acts that we are what we profess to be, as faith and works go together. No man or woman need deceive themselves them-selves and think that because they have been baptised and have bowed bow-ed obedience to the first principles of the gospel they can do as they please and neglect their duties, and be found guiltless; but let us be faithful to God and he will protect pro-tect us and will bring us off victorious. victor-ious. ' 9 Mexico has been highly cultivated cultiva-ted in the past and the country has been settled by large numbers of inhabitants, as the country plainly plain-ly shows, and they have been wasted wast-ed away and it waa caused by their own acts of immorality.
