Show ERUPTIONS CAUSE ROUGH SEA FOR SHIP SAN FRANCISCO, April 28. The steamer Buckman of the Alaska Pacific Pa-cific line, in command of Capt. E. B. Wood, arrived here late last night with volunteer physicians, Red Cross nurses and a cargo of 2200 tons of provisions and supplies for the homeless people of this city. The vessel made a record run from Seattle, but encountered a terrific sea off Cape Blanco, which the crew and passengers believe was caused by subterranean eruptions, and which for a time threatened to engulf the staunch ship on its errand of mercy. The Buckman was sent to San Francisco Fran-cisco by the Chambers of Commerce of Seattle and Tacoma to carry relief to this stricken city. |
