"Yet they inevitably are the ones who pay the greatest cost of war: the loss of family, friends, home, culture, economics, support systems and place in society. I believe their stories need to be told, and we need to listen." Funding for her visit will be provided by the Fellowship in Ethics Award, given by the UVSC Center for the Study of Ethics. The annual award is designed to promote research among faculty. Hamb- lin is its first recipient. Hamblin was chosen for the award by a committee of her peei*s. "There was a lot of quality to choose from," said David Keller, ethics center director. "A lot of work like this goes unnoticed around our campus. Faculty especially go about quietly and unappreciated, so this award is good to recognize the high-quality work that goes on around our campus." Professor Hamblin has taught at UVSC for more than 11 years, teaching subjects such as poetry, creative writing, women's literature and English composition. She has conducted various seminars and has published poetry and essays in various journals. The aim in hiring these additional faculty members is to reduce the student-to-faculty ratio and re-align the teaching load. "Our goal is to appoint people with integrity-civically engaged and professionally competent in their field of study," said Cameron Martin, assistant to the president for Institutional Development and Planning and the chair of the University Transition Task Force. "We want to be sure we hire the right people at the right time and for the right reasons, keeping UVSC *s focus as a student-centered teaching institution."
