Show Cutter Craze Thursday, February 4, 1971 by Marge Jensen BOB HODGSON Results from the Box Elder County Fairgrounds AT THE GATES This team driven by Arvel Bell breaks through the gates during Bear River Valley Cutter association action at the fairgrounds. The race action was captured on film by Bill Chapman. Rough by any name MANILA (I 'PI) The Philippines averages 19 tropical depressions, storms and typhoons in a year. The weather bureau groups all of them under the term cyclones. Women Cagers End Round Six - In City Rivers Reesettes Bear If you werent there you should have been. Where? At the cutter races. What a day I What a crowd! I actually heard someone say it was their first time there, want to bet it wont be their last? You should have seen the track! Good, deep, gooey spring (in January?) mud. Track records werent broken but those teams and drivers were undaunted. After the first jump the drivers couldnt see and only the brave ones dared to yell and scream, especially if they had won until they heard Ben Tanaka announce the results. There were many upsets and you could tell from the crowds reaction when a favorite team hadnt come through the winner. What a close call Spin Baty had. He won his race and had come back to have his picture taken when the following race started. This left Spin and his team standing at the finish line with two powerful teams thundering down upon him. The team seemed to sense the danger and "froze up. What a great little guy! He got his horses turned just in time to run around the track with the two teams and what could have been a tragedy was avoided. The fastest teams in each division were: Carter & Cornia colts; Nolan Jensen, B; (by the way, do you know he is my better, half?) Fonnesbeck & Nelson A. Here are last weeks winners and if you were betting Ill bet you dropped a few quarters.
