Show ELEMENTARY SCHOOL NEWS A meeting of the Central School PTA was held in the Grovecrest auditorium Friday evening. President Presi-dent Dora Hales introduced Alpine District PTA President Mary Moyle, who conducted the business of dissolving the present Central School PTA. Units will be organized organi-zed at both Grovecrest and Central next autumn. Guest speakers were Supt. Alma Burton, Board Member Niels Fugal, and Principal Calvin Walker. Walk-er. Mrs. Told, Mr. Gilbert and Mr. Hall summarized the Fourth Grade social studies course: "The Study of Utah." During the program by the Fourth Graders, the singing and dancing was directed by Irwin Jensen, with Gwen Adams at the piano. ESN Miss Roberta Clegg, public school nurse, reported that 372 Pleasant Grove and 127 Lindon students reoeived the Salk Polio shots Wednesday. These students were the ones who received the "water shots" last year and also the ones who did not receive any polio test shots a year ago. Miss Clegg stated that polio shots would be given in about one month for those who received the "real polio shots" last year. Also the second shot would be given to those who were innoculated Wednesday. This month's delay is due to a shortage of polio vaccine, Miss Clegg emphaised. ESN On Saturday May 7, at 9:00 a.m; in the city hall D.P.T. shots will be given to complete the series of immunization started in the schools. ESN On Thursday April 28, the Sixth Graders of Central and Grovecrest made an educational trip to Salt Lake City. The students visited the State Capitol, the Salt Lake Tribune, a bakery, the Hogle Zoo and "This is the Place" monument. The trip was made by school bus. ESN A recent survey revealed that only 16 Fourth Graders in Pleas-anet Pleas-anet Grove had ever ridden on a train. It will be a new experience for most of the students when they will ride the D & R G W "Prospector" "Pros-pector" from Provo to Salt Lake City on Wednesday May 4. A school bus will take the students to Provo to catch the Streamliner at 7:30 a.m. The boys and girls will be brought home by bus after an educational sight-seeing excursion excur-sion in the capitol city. ESN Today (Friday)' students of the Second Grade will visit the Adams Dairy Fram in Manila to observe where the milk comes from. From the farm they will go by bus to the Spafford Dairy in American Fork. They will study the complete milk-producing process. ESN The near fatal car-bicycle accident ac-cident Wednesday morning points up again the serious need of paved ( sidewalks along the approaches to the Grovecrest School. Only the alert cooperation of the driver of the car prevented the death of the youngcyclist. |
