S TrOOPS Troop Are Called To Guard Devastated District Intent Intense Heat It Is Given At As Cause Caute Of Tornado Troy Ala Sixteen Sixteen persons were reported ki killed and more than a score Injured by a tornado which struck Pike Piko county Alabama Many homes were wore laid waste causing thousands of dollars damage Relief measures were undertaken and first aid was rushed to several communities which bore the brunt of I Ithe the storm Victims who fled I here were vere sheltered by citizens of Troy and the local hospital was taxied to capacity in taking care of the injured After Arter sweeping through this thiS' section sec eec tion the tornado rushed on its way southwestward Loss of life lite was reported in the Good Hope section at Luverne In the Oak Grove neighborhood at Union Springs in Comer Corner and in Spring Hill the last three places being In Barbour Barbour Barbour Bar- Bar bour county and at Eufaula Eulaula where the e negroes were reported killed and several persons injured In the Good Hope s section seven miles west of Troy four one family were killed and two others oth oth- ers era rs probably fatally injured Five negroes were killed near hero here and six near Union Springs Persons near the path of the storm aroused by the terrific wind and the cries of the injured worked in a heavy downpour of rain and nd vivid flashes flushes of ot lightning for hours rendering rendering rendering ren ren- dering aid and searching for the miss- miss ing The dead and injured were scattered scattered scattered scat scat- along the roads in the fields and near the demolished homes An emergency call was sent to Troy for aid and many of the injured were brought to the Masonic onic hospital According to reports reaching Troy much damage was done lone at Brantley Glenwood and Goshen but no loss of life was reported from either place The tornado followed Intense heat and threatening weather and was followed followed fol fol- lowed by a severe electrical storm |
