Officer Greer was cleared in January 1983 of wrongdoing in the December 1982 shooting death of Norwegian exchange student Knute Surlien during a burglary investigation A shooting review board found that he had acted within departmental policy and state deadly force statutes when the intoxicated student charged through a glass door at the officer Mr. Brakey alleged that he had suffered a scratch on his nose and one or two black eyes after Officer Greer arrested him.
