CITY COUNCIL Tho city council met in session laet night in alie maborn office councilmen spencer L B adams W P adams fanell fan ell dark carpenter and watson answered to the roll call cilia for the usual incidental expenses acro favorably reported and allowed alio special tax committee recommended alie appropriation of several small sums aggregating abent fifty dollars for the redemption of property 0 needy poor which bad been eold for taxes adopted A number of for remission ot taxes were referred to the tax committee an ordinance declaring the recently revised city ordinances to false effect from and after publication thereof as introduced an dunder suspension of abo rules was read oliree times and passed A lively discussion took place regarding alie effect of the action of the council in session of october loorine to the closing of the bench file et alion alie eaid action consisted con of the adoo lion by the council of the report of its committee on firo department recommending tho closing ot the bench station and discharge of tha two men aud alie matter was at that time re berred to the anro committee with power to act it now appears that the committee lias taken no stops toward formally discharging the men and tho question arose aa to the authority of the council and whether the ire an police be con bulto i acting upon addico of alie city attorney it was finally decided to fonn ally notify the chief of tho depart iho commissioners commissi onera of llie closing of the bench station and alie discharge of the men it was thought this would relieve the council of further obligation in the matter councilman W F adams moved eliat the ordinance passed at this session bo published the required number of times in some dally paper printed in den carried councilman farrell sought further light upon the question cf the elatus of the men employed at the bench alre station it was tho general opinion informally expressed that the mn were detill on the pay roll the council then adjourned
