Show Why Not Build a Road That is Needed The governors of the Four Corners states have been Invited t to o attend a meeting in Cortez Colo at some future date to discuss a road across the corner for Cor the purpose of erecting a monument on th the e exact corner A highway leads from somewhere to somewhere else The id idof idea ea of the four governors governor to be there Is we assume to talk all four states Into helping foot the bill We favor roads more roads and better roads But roads a are re built from the dollars dollar plucked from the pockets of or the taxpayer Seeing See ing the exact spot where four state corners meet the only such spot In the U. U S S. S would make a nice addition to the many features of this area But as we see it it leads from Cortez to somewhere in Arizona Ari Arl zona Why should Utah and end New Mexico add more tax burden on citizens of those two states for something that wouldn't a plugged nickel to the state A road across southern Utah connecting southeastern Utah and southwestern Colorado with the scenic wonders to be found in southwestern south western Utah It would provide a natural flow for tourists that would b be worth countless times more than any road from Cortez to the desert via Four Corners Comers It would provide a leasure connection for tourists to include such sights as the Royal Gorge the Black Canyon of the Gunnison the Million Dollar Highway Mesa Verde Arches National Monument Natural Bridges National Monument Capital Reef National Monument Monument Monument ment Bryce Canyon Zion Canyon and on to the Grand Canyon not Canyon not notto to mention many other scenic spots of less tess I That is odds of 10 to 1 in favor of the logical road east to west and would benefit taxpayers at the rate of 1000 to 1 lover over the road rood from Cortez to the Four Corners Comers monument which looks to us like a Montezuma county project that they want everybody else to foot the bill for especially Utah and New Mexico which couldn't realize a nickel In return |
