Smith, Myton, has just "completed 8 weeks of basic training at Fort Polk, Louisiana. Mr. Harrison will report to Fort Sam Houston, Texas on January 29th. He is serving in the Medics. Mr. and Mrs. Francis Fowler Fowl-er and family of Myton were visiting relatives in Springville last weekend. They also visited visit-ed with Earl R. Fowler, who is under a doctors care and staying with his daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Alma Larsen of Provo. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Felter recently received word that their son, Dave, has finished basic training at Fort Benning, Georgia. Albert Mott, 88, who made his home in Myton and Vernal for many years, died in a Vernal nursing home Saturday, January 15th of causes incident to age. Born April 25, 1877, at Salina, Sevier County, to John and Katherine Holden Mott. He married Roxann Merrill March 23, 1898, at Vernal. She preceded him in death. He had resided with a sister, Lutie Mott, in Myton for many years, and had been confined to a Vernal nursing home during the past several months. Surviving " arc two sons, Vern cf Vernal and Golden of Los Angeles; 2 daughters, Mrs. Alberta Ross of Salt Lake City, and Mrs. Ivan (Ruth) DeMille of Vernal; 20 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mrs. Arthema Logan and Miss Lutie Mott, both of Myton. He had been a farmer during his lifetime. A member mem-ber of the LD.S. Church. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, January 18, at the Vernal Second Wsrd Chapel. Interment was in the Vernal City Cemetery. Many friends attended the funeral in Vernal. Members of the Birthday Club were guests at the home of Mrs. Esther Burton, Thursday Thurs-day afternoon. The group were busy workers as they prepared pre-pared varied hand work. The hostess served delicious refreshments re-freshments at the close of the afternoon. Before returning return-ing to their homes, the members mem-bers visited one of their members mem-bers who is ill, Mrs. Fred ToHd, who was unable to be present at the meeting. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. H. Linck were Salt Lake City visitors last week while Mr. Linck received medical attention. They also visited family members while there. Mr. arid Mrs. Clark Roberts received the sad news of the deaths of Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Russon who were killed in an airplane accident Thursday near Reno, Nevada. Mr. Russon is a brother of Mrs. Roberts. They were enroute to San Jose, California, at the time of the accident. Mr. and Mrs. Roberts went to Provo Monday to attend the funeral. Mr. Nathan Allen was called to Salt Lake City by the serious illness of his father Jesse Allen, a one time resident of this area. His many friends hope for his early recovery. Mrs. Irene Cook of Ballard and Mrs. Van Winterton of Roosevelt were Stake Relief Society visitors at the Tuesday afternoon session of the Myton Ward Relief Society to participate partici-pate in the social science lesson. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Smith and family came from Salt Lake City to enjoy a weekend visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. " Willard Smith. The Uintah Basin Irrigation Co. held their annual meeting at the American Legion Hall. Two directors were released, Mack Storey and Marion Ross. New directors elected were Alden Kyanston, Frank Liddell, Dan Uresk, Leon Ross, and Earl Gingell. Mr. and Mrs. Marion Ross were hosts Sunday at a dinner party complimentary to the birthday of Mrs. Leon Ross. Other guests were Leon Ross and Mr. and Mrs. Larry Ross. Mrs. Bert Dennis and Mrs. Dan Gardiner were hostesses Thursday evening at the Wallace Dennis ranch home, honoring Mrs. Ron Damond, the former Diana Jenson, now residing in Layton, Utah. A linen shower was presented to Mrs. Damond by her host of friends. Games and refreshments were enjoyed by the large group. The bride is a daughter of Mrs. Marjorie Hardinger. . Mr. and Mrs. Fred Todd were Salt Lake City visitors Friday and Saturday, while Mrs. Todd received medical attention. atten-tion. They returned home Sunday, accompanying Mrs. Jennie Miller and son, Malcolm Mal-colm of Ft. Duchesne, .who were also Salt Lake City visitors. A large congregation attended attend-ed Sunday morning services at the Myton Presbyterian Church to greet Robert Tagley, a member of the Christ Methodist Metho-dist Church Commission of Missions of Salt Lake Citv. The theme of the sermon, "History and the Church", presented a very worthwhile message. mes-sage. A special musical number num-ber was a piano duet by Mrs. Gladyes Dart and Kenneth Lamb. Mrs. Melvin Schwartz presided at the piano for the hymns. At the close of the service, refreshments were served and the congregation had the opportunity to meet Mr. Tagley and his two charming daughters who accompanied him. The Bee Hive Girls, 1st & 2nd classes, attended the Camp Certification Clinic at the Stake Center in Roosevelt Eleven girls were accompanied by their leaders, Mrs. Elaine Roberts and Mrs. Betty Monks. The group participated in an ice skating party at the tennis court at the close of the clinic. Mrs. James Penfield left Thursday to join her husband who has been attending Heavy Equipment School at Beaumont, California. They will visit friends and relatives as they enjoy the journey homeward. Weekend visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Adams were Mr. and Mrs. Ray Adams and children and Mr. and Mrs. Ricki Adams, all of Salt Lake City. The visitors are former Myton residents and enjoyed greeting old friends while here. Other visitors were Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Wilkerson of Duchesne. No services will be held .Sunday, January 30 at the Presbyterian Church, as that date will be the 5th Sunday of the month and at this time no arrangement has been made for five services during a month. A Lay mans Service will be conducted Sunday, February 6, at the Presbyterian Church, under the direction of Roy Deg-ler Deg-ler of Ft. Duchesne. A cordial cor-dial invitation is extended to one and all. Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer Murray attended the County Officials Convention in Salt Lake Citv Wednesday, Thurs day and Friday of last week. While there they had the opportunity to attend "Mary, Mary" at the Pioneer Memorial Memor-ial Theater, participated in a tour of Wheeler, Arnold and Einco Machinery Co displays, and enjoyed luncheons. However, How-ever, the wives had more opportunity for the pleasure portion of the convention while the commissioners attended business meetings. Many friends gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Law-rence Potter Thursday afternoon after-noon to honor a recent bride, the former Glenda Potter. A kitchen shower was given by Charlene Collier of Vernal, a sister of the bride. Many lovely and useful gifts were presented to the new bride and refreshments were served during the afternoon. |
