Show , Page 6 Sugar House, Utah Thursday, January 29, 1959 INDEPENDENT ' Historical Drama To Start Feb. 2 Robert A. Miller, who starred in recent University of Utah theatre productions of "Damn Yankees", "Macbeth" and "Janus", has been cast in the role of Lord Essex in the forthcoming Kingsbury Hall production of ELIZABETH THE QUEEN. Robert Hyde Wilson, director, announced that Mr. Miller replaces Liam Sullivan of Hollywood who was unable to appear due ' to serious illness. Mr. Miller will play opposite the well-know- n character actress of Broadway and Hollywood, Mil-dred Dunnock. Mr. Miller re-cently has completed appear-ances in two Hollywood-produce- d TV films, "Wells Fargo" and "GE Theatre", both national TV network shows. Prior to his distinguished performances in University Theatre productions, Mr. Mil-ler was a featured player in the Magic Rain Theatre of the Portland Repertory Com. pany in Oregon. He has also done considerable live TV work. Mildred Dunnock nationally known for her many character roles in Broadway hits, the movies and network tele-vision, plays the title role of Queen Elizabeth. She has re-cently been featured in such movies as "Death of a Sales-man", "Baby Doll" and "Peyton Place" and in Broad-way hits such as '.'Another Part of the Forest", "Death of a salesman" and "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof". Costumes being created by designer Sereta Jones all will be styled in the colorful middle-Elizabeth- an per iod. During a European tour taj 1950 Mrs. Jones secured many beautiful color prints of cos-tumes of various periods and the Queen Elizabeth costume , will be a copy of an original color painting by Holbein which Mrs. Jones secured in Paris. The famous red wig worn in Broadway produc-tions of Elizabeth the Queen will be wornj by Miss Dunnock in the University Theatre show. Sir Walter Raleigh's coat is an unusually interesting wine-eplore- d, cerise-line- d cloak, Settings for ELIZABETH THE QUEEN are being so designed that the action will be able to move from one area of the large set to another without the necessity of any major set changes. Interesting selective lighting effects are being worked out by Vern Adix, art director, and Therald Todd of the Uni-versity Theatre scene shop. Cast in the principal sup-porting roles are the follow-ing well-know- n local players: Pershing Howe as Francis Bacon, Ursel Allred as the Fool, Ken Sansome as Lord Burghley, Nadra Roberts as Penelope Gray, Jack Swanson - as Sir Walter Raleigh, John Dee as Sir Robert Cecil. Karen Lang is ' assistant director. Other parts are played by Mike Murdock, George Ryan, Neil Barclay, Valerie Hul-ber- t, Laren Bates, Wayne Thomas, Adella S u s s m a n, Louis Rayburn and Pat Hunt. ELIZABETH THE QUEEN runs Feb. 2 through Feb.7 at Kingsbury Hall on the Uni-veris- ty of Utah campus..
