The steamer Corona went ashore on the rocks of Humboldt at 1:50 o'clock this morning. There are more than 100 persons per-sons aboard. The vessel struck near the place where the steamer Sequino was wrecked several months ago. The steamer Roanoke, bound for Pan Francisco, has put a line aboard the t'orona. The Corona's bow is submerged while her afterpart is crowded with passengers. Waves are breaking high over her how and it is thought she is breaking up. Ten men in a lifeboat have put out for the wreck from the life-saving station sta-tion in the hope of saving those on board. It is doubted if they will be able to get near the vessel, as the water is very rough. i The Corona, which left San Francisco Fran-cisco vesterday with 95 passengers for .this port, belongs to the Pacific Coast Steamship company and is commanded by Capt. Poyd. She is a steel screw vessel ves-sel of 1442 tonnage, 220 feet long, 35 foot beam and was built at Philadelphia Philadel-phia in 1S88. . |
