Show Lchi Hosts Tri-Scho- Pioneare ol A very tall and talented Richfield team visited the Wrestling Tourney The Spanish Fork wrestlers dominated the hosted tri-me- et by the Pioneers Thursday night and walked away with a 102 point total to out distance Dixie with 51 and Lehi 45. Freshman Leroy Downs was a bright spot at 98 pounds with two pins, as was 145 pounder Ken Roseman with two pins also. Terry Messersmith at 126 pounds gained one pin and one decision to round out the double winners. Individual results were as follows: 98 lbs. Highly touted as the best team in Richfield in many years, they came off a close and scrappy first quarter to pull away and win by a comfortable margin. Todd Nelson staked the Pioneers to an early lead by hitting for Lehi's piece, Dorton, Gray and Tuckett and Gurney, 2 each. The Pioneers scored 17 field goals and 18 of 28 from the foul line. American Fork was led by Adamson with 13 points. Pulley 11, Farnsworth 10. Monson en and Larry Cardon, 2 a piece and Bruce Tuckett, 1. Richfield was led by Scott Brown with 27 points. Christensen 15. Christiansen 12 and Young 11. Am. Fork 79, Lehi 52 The Pioneers started slowly on the offense and with three starters in early foul trouble, fell behind early by a 0 deficit in the first quarter. In the second quarter Todd Nelson started to pick up the scoring slack by hitting ten points. The Cavemen used a balanced scoring attack to pull away to a 3 half time lead. The third quarter fared no Pioneers led 13-- at the four minute mark but as in past games, fouls plagued the smaller Pioneer team as Richfield pulled within one point at the end of the first quarter. The first four minutes of the second quarter the game seesawed and was tied at 24 at that point. Richfield scored 13 unanswered points to pull away and lead by a 0 half 43-3- time score. Opening the second half Richfield broke to an 18 point lead and for all intent and purposes had the ballgame. Dennis Carlton, after a slow first half, found the range and blistered the nets with 18 second half points. Dennis also had a good night on the boards. Keith in a couple of defensive gems taking away two Richfield fast breaks. The Pioneers lost four starters via the five fouls to hamper their chances for a comeback. The final score was Richfield 90, Lehi 73.
