Show The Diamonds in the Rough Most everyone seems to like the idea of the new layout propsed for the baseball park,, to accomodate three dia monds and at the same time make more parking space available. ; The proposal made at last week's council meeting would utilize tne general idea ot the (jeorge Q. Morris softball park in South Salt Lake. Engineer have checked the plans and found the measurements to be accurate, and that there is room for two diamonds suitable for softball or Pany ball and one for Little League. The area presently owned by the city is only a little too small, but it is reported that the owner of the ad jacent property is agreeable to a trade which would benefit both himself and the city. Only objection raised so far is the fear that foul balls dropping on other diamonds may endanger other players and unwary spectators. Proponents of the new plan declare, however, that there will be a minimum of 40 feet be tween diamonds and that fences will be high enough to stop most balls in this class of game. It has also been pointed out that lasf year, with the diamonds laid out so that the outfields adjoin, several Pony League homeruns landed in the Little League outfield and could be a source of danger greater than a looping fouj fly. Both sides have points, but it would appear that the new plan (has considerable merit and should not be dismissed without thorough study. The change could be made in plenty of time for play this season. And in the meantime the city should continue its search for another baseball park. Enthusiasm generated dur- the past few seasons indicates that baseball is going to be bigger and belter each season in the junior leagues, and inore diamonds will be needed. I was told the other day that there are more scientists alive today than all the scientists who ever lived before our time. Scientific information has been doubling every 10 years in the last several decades. What a force for good or what a frightening force for destruction. Our daughter was at a fashiun show last Saturday and was presented with a $35 bottle of Chanel No 5 as a door prize. She was dizzy with excitement. J believe we'll transfer some to smaller bottles and at the suggestion of a friend seal the remaining perfume with wax to keep it from evaporating. Twq ounces of fine perfume is indeed quite a bit.
