Show war zone. When the war started in Korea, the Washburn was en-route en-route to Alaska. After unloading her cargo at Point Barrow she was ordered to Inchon by way of Bremerton, Wash., and Japan. She was the first cargo ship to arrive for the Inchon landing and the second ship of the attack force to unload cargo and troops. Later, she participated in the Wonsan landings. After returning return-ing to San Diego in time for Christmas last year, the Washburn Wash-burn operated on the west coast until June when she was again .ordered to the Far East. This time she took part in the amphibious amph-ibious training of troops in Japan Ja-pan and later went to Hong Kong The Washburn is tentatively scheduled for a brief upkeep and overhaul period and routine west coast operations. Mrs. Elma Thomas of Salt Lake City visited Monday night, Tuesday Tues-day and Wednesday with Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Carter and family fa-mily and Mr. and Mrs. Dan De-laney De-laney and family. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard L. Miller Mill-er and son Ned and Karlene Wilson Wil-son spent Christmas day with Mr .and Mrs. Zane Dumont and son of Lark. Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Anthon O. Jacobson and daughters were Mrs. Jacob-son's Jacob-son's sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Pete Cuevas and children of Murray. Mr. and Mrs. John E. (Jack) Knudsen and daughter Karen arrived ar-rived home December 21st to spend the holidays with relatives and friends. They will return to : local notes: Mr. and Mrs. Josh Hawks and son J. John Dee Woodhouse, 17, of Union, passed away Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. at his residence of a heart ailment. Born March 21, 1934 in Bingham Canyon, he was a son of Irel and Ruby Proctor Woodhouse. The youth was a student at Jordan high school and a member of the Union First Ward, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Surviving are his parents, a brother, Lynn, and a sister, Cleo Rao, all of Union. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer V. Knud-jsen Knud-jsen of Copperton were hosts Christmas eve at a lovely dinner party. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Christensen, Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Smith, Mr. and Mrs. J. Dewey Knudsen, Mr. and Mrs. John E. Knudsen and daughter Karen, and Mrs. O. G. Muir. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Householder House-holder Sr. Householder entered naval service on Oct. 19, 1951, uaiias, lex., on January 5 where Jack id completing ins senior year at Southern Methodist University Uni-versity and is junior salesman for the American National Life Insurance Co. Jack is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer V. Knudsen of Copperton. San Diego, Calif., Dec. 16 Gene B. Cunliffe, seaman, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. It. L. Cunliffe Cun-liffe of Copperton arrived here today aboard the amphibious force attack cargo ship USS Washburn. The Washburn, returning re-turning from her second tour of duty in the Far East, left United States last June for the Korean and received his recruit training at San Diego. This initial training train-ing includes instruction in such fields as seamanship, fire-fighting, gunnery, signaling, and other oth-er courses designed to make the recruit well-versed in every phase of navy life. Upon completion comple-tion of their 11-week training period, graduates are assigned to duty stations with the fleet or at navy shore stations, or are sent to service schools for advanced technical training.
