But it didn't last that way for long as things got a little erratic. Each team made a couple of turnovers and each team missed shots they should not have missed. Brock Jones came off the bench to add a little fire as he made a nice block on an attempted shot, grabbed a couple of rebounds and scored underneath. Curtis Jacobsenhitathree pointer, made a great steal and then hit Jason Allan on a fast break to the basket where he scored and drew thefoul.Endofone: LHS 13 Carbon 11 v. , , f v J' I- - J I j 9. rate. Curtis Jacobson then made another steal, Mike Gray hit a three pointer and then Curtis made an inside turn around with the left hand. The third period ended with Lehi looking at a technical and a narrower lead The last quarter got a bit noisy and a little pushy as both teams were not going to give an inch. Carbon m ade a steal of their own and a poor Pioneer pass resulted in a lead exchange with 2:40 left. The Pioneer defense bristled a bit more as Luke Magnusson turned a couple shots away. And then Lehireally had to reach down deep as Jason Allan, Curtis Jacobson and Mike Gray all hit clutch free throws making seven out of eight attempts. But the shot of the game came from Brock Jones as he made an off balance shot between what appeared to be a dozen defenders; a 43-3- commended for their good sports- manship and tenacity, which considering they lack the cheerleaders, other teams'cheer squads travel hours just to cheer their sister athletes on, and they lack the that most of the visiting teams have had, they still have retained that which is vital to any team enthusiasm. broo-hah-h- 7, If 1-- 8 i , t I Varsity members and sisters Jamie and Jackie Hadfield, senior and freshman, respectively, have set school records in two events. Nicole Wycherley, also a freshman, is first in freestyle and backstroke. First year diver Brad Savage is "doing great" according to Coach Dennis Meyring, and Shawn Ross, Jarrod Chamberlain and Ryan Meyring, all who joined the team at are "consistent scorers and should place in state." "Now is the time that we put it all on the line for the region and state meets," said Coach Meyring. "We had a lot of turnovers especially in the last half," commented coach Libby Price. "We had our spurts. If we would have shot like we did in the fourth quarter we would have won the game." The Lady Pioneers should be By CATHY ALLRED A great player, Junior Varsity's Katye Gillman is only a Sophomore and with two more seasons in her high school basketball career left, it is to the benefit of the Lady Pioneers. Some players seem to float around as part of the team play, others move to win, but Lehi's 10 shows the excitement and theheart of a winner. She loves the sport for the sport itself. Combined with experience and confidence, her talents and skills will be an important part of the future girl's varsity team. Even when Lehi was paled in the Gillman Carbon Dinos' game, carried the game with intensity to the depressing finish and never became inattentive to the details of the sport. But she was not the only talented player. Jana Fullmer was the lead in rebounds, while Cami Cooper matched Gillman in shots and assists. The first quarter ended 2 and that gap was not closed the rest of the game, except by one point in the 4th quarter with four minutes re-aining. They should have stopped the game there because after that the Dinos took off like a cat with its tail afire and scored 14 more to the Pioneers four. Let's shed some light on the situation. Lehi's JV was playing against all varsity players. "I noticed that they had everyone that played the JV game is in the Varsity game," said JV coach Kyle Christensen. "It's kind ofhard on us when they push their players down like that but it's good for us too. We learn from it." Carbon was a very physical and talented team, but they were short on discipline. Pushing, jabbing, and grabbing, even tripping usually occurs with every game, but kicking? There was also their dispute with the refs because they didn't want to tuck their shirts in. Talent must have its price. (Careful, Gillman.) all-rou- 11. 56-4- Fitness Center pool, 454 N. Center St., American Fork. Meets begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Head coach Chad Wilson had these words: "It was a sloppy game and both teams played that way, but we managed. The key to this game was that we kept our heads, and when Carbon stepped up the pressure the guys didn't panic. They managed to stay in there in spite of the fact that we made some mis- circle. Jake Terry and James Jex each had four points, Mike Josh Peck and Bartholomew, Randall Miller each had a deuce. In overtime the score went back and forth until the last five seconds of the game. The Pioneers unbounded the ball under their basket with the score tied at 70. Lane Carlton received the ball from Mike Bartholomew and penetrated, pulled up in the paint, and scored, leaving one second on the clock. Lakeridge attempted a desperation shot, but was unsuccessful. Congratulations to the Pioneers of Lehi Jr. High who defeated Lakeridge by two points in overtime. Travis Colledge had a season high of 26 points to lead all scoring. Jake Terry and Lane Carlton each had 16 points. The Pioneers played great team defense throughout the entire game. Travis Colledge grabbed 10 rebounds, Jake Terry ripped five boards.
