The Academic Athlete Award was established by the Cougar Club to encourage and recognize the scholastic accomplishments of BYU athletes. Wilcox is a member of the BYU football team and for qualified recognition by reaching a 3.2 or higher semester GPA while being considered eligible under conference rules. Athletic director Glen Tuckett explained the importance of academics to the more than 70 athletes in the audience.
