Show Red Devils Will Tackle Tough Bulldogs Here Friday at 3 p.m. in Top Grid Game , One of the big games of the football season for the Red Devil gri ciders will be the Provo game here Friday afternoon beginning at 3 p.m. Provo will be playing with the Region 3 schools officially for the first time since the new set up put Carbon and Provo in with Springville Payson, Spanish Fork and Lincoln. Springville's eleven made a creditable showing last Friday night against a strong Payson club to come out with a 19-19 tie while Provo underestimated the Spanish Fork Dons to go down 12-7. The game today promises to be a thriller with the Devils drawing a stiff assignment in handling the larger Provo school team. Comparative scores on paper favor tho Red Devils in the Friday tiff but since the Bulldogs were somewhat some-what humiliated at the hands of the Dons, the Devils can expect a tough battle from the neighbors on the north. If Springville's defense de-fense can tighten up and should the Devil offense click as it should the Pherson team should come out with at least a tie and probably a one-touchdown advantage. Devils Tio Lions ... In an exciting and well-played game under the Payson lights last Friday night, Springville and Pay-son Pay-son battled to a 19-19' deadlock after some outstanding playing on the part of both squads. Leading the Red Devils in their game was the outstanding running of Tuttle, Livingston and Kunze. These backfield men made smashing smash-ing drives for outstanding gains throughout the first quarter. With Tuttle and Livingston smashing smash-ing through the line for consistent gains, the Devils scored two touch- downs in the first quarter. Kunze counted the extra point. Payson camo back in the second quarter to count two touchdowns, one of which was a 65 yard dash. Springville, Spring-ville, with only a few minutes to go to the half, took to the air and within three plays, had crossed the goal line. Fullmer completed two nice passes the second of which was a 30 yard one to Thorpe which took the ball to the Payson 5. Watts reversed to go over standing up. Play in the last two quarters was more defensive with Payson scoring the tieing score in the third period. Both teams had an opportunity to win the game during dur-ing in final period, but superior defense de-fense thwarted the attempts. Whitney Whit-ney looked particularly good for the devils, as did Ash, on the defensive de-fensive side. |
