IT S STILL OUT THERE , INTERNATIONAL Beirut An offer to send a peace keeping force of French troops into strife-torn Lebanon has been received favorably by Christian leaders but was opposed by Moslem leftist officials. French President Valery Giscard d'Estaing said Friday he would be willing to send three regiments, totaling 3,000 men plus air and naval forces. Christian leader Pierre Gemayel termed the French troops "necessary" but the Moslems expressed opposition to any foreign intervention. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger indicated that French military presence might be acceptable ac-ceptable if air interested parties agreed. The Maronite Christians and Moslem leftists have been engaged in a civil war for more than 13 months. Guam The territory of Guam was declared a major disaster area Saturday after a savage typhoon raked the island causing three deaths, damaging 80 percent of the buildings and critically reducing the water supply. ' Typhoon Pamela struck Thursday leaving an estimated 30,000 people homeless at one point. The full extent of the storm's havoc has yet to be determined because most of Guam's lines of communication were knocked out and the majority of roads are impassable. Oslo The North Atlantic Treaty Organization Friday sternly admonished the Soviet Union that a Warsaw Pact arms buildup which exceeds defense needs could mean "an arms race of dangerous dimensions." After two days of their regular semi-annual meeting, foreign ministers from the 15 NATO powers expressed "the determination of their governments to take measures necessary to maintain and improve the efficiency of their forces as an essential safeguard to the security of member countries, whether against military aggression1 or political pressure." , ,,, BrJ&ba,n,e, , Ajs,-r,tyoM came to the rescue of four-year-old Tammy Stokes last Wednesday when the young girl was attacked by a nine-foot shark at Queensland resort. Tammy was wading in knee-deep water when the shark snapped at her. Dollar bit the shark's . tail as Tammy's father pulled her to safety. Manila, The Philippines Ten passengers and three hijackers were killed Sunday as soldiers stormed a hijacked jetliner at Zamboanga. Six Moslems had commandeered the Philippine Airline jet Friday holding an estimated 87 passengers hostage. The violence erupted when several passengers attempted to escape. According to a military source, the soldiers moved in when the terrorists opened fire on passengers who had crowded in a doorway trying to flee the jetliner. NATIONAL Yuba City, Calif. Twenty-seven students, including 11 members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and an adult chaperone were killed Friday morning when the bus they were riding in plowed through 90 feet of highway exit guardrail and plunged 30 feet to the concrete below, landing on its roof. Among the 24 more persons injured,, many critically, is driver Evan Prothero who authorities said has a record of driving convictions con-victions which included drunken driving and speeding. , Washington Sen. Richard Schweiker, R-Pa., claims documents show the FBI was aware of a CIA plot to assassinate Cuba's Fidel Castro that was transpiring on the same day President John F. Kennedy was fatally shot in Dallas, Tex. Schweiker said the documents "to our knowledge were not turned over to the Warren Commission." The commission's apparent unawareness of U.S. plots against Castro has been cited as one of the major flaws in its determination that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone in the Kennedy assassination. ' New Orleans French President Valery Giscard d'Estaing ended a six-day, six-city visit o the United States Sunday. Giscard boarded the supersonic Concorde for his return to France and said he would take a strong message to the French people concerning the United States. " Washington By a 72-to-22 vote Wednesday, the Senate created a permenent committee to monitor U.S.. intelligence operations. Formation of the Select Committee on Intelligence Activities ended 15 months of disclosures which included spying on civilians, recordkeeping on civilians not suspected of rimes and CIA assassination plots. The in telligence com unity has been under investigation by temporary House and Senate committees. Although the Select Committee will not have the authority to stop CIA or military intelligence operations the Senate resolution requires that the committee be kept completely informed as to plans for such actions. Hays, D-Ohio, D-Ohio, has strongly denied allegations by ' a woman on his staff that she has been kept on the congressman's payroll as his mistress. , Elizabeth Ray, 27, who earns a reported $14,000 per year, told the Washington Post, "I can't type. "The woman is a former mental patient,';' Hays said during a vehement denial. , '..',' No Beer for G run ion's Grub Robert Nelson, owner of Grunion's Grub and Lunch Tub, unsuccessfully appealed a city council decision to deny his request for a class C beer license at the council's Thursday, May 20, meeting. Explaining the catering operation he runs from a specially adapted truck, Nelson told the council,"I don't consider it a floating beer wagon. It's a catering service for local business people who don't have time to go out for lunch." . Before the council had a chance to discuss . Nelson's appeal City Attorney Carl Nelmelka informed the officials, of-ficials, "The state statute prohibits the canvassing or soliciting the sale of alchoholic beverages. You can't legally grant him a license, it is that simple." New Bus Service Offered Park City Transport has announced that a new bus , service between Heber City, Park City and Salt Lake City will start June 1, 1976. The bus service has been designed as a commuter service. It will arrive and depart the Ontario Mine in Park City to match the start and finish of the day shift. It will also arrive in Salt Lake City in time for most people to get to work in the city or for students attending the , University or other schools. The bus schedule will also arrive back in Heber in time to meet the first departure of the Heber Creeper at 11 a.m. The second schedule will depart Heber around 2:45 p.m. arriving and departing Salt Lake City about 5 p.m. Dave Novelle, owner of Park City Transport said that final scheduling will be complete prior to June first.
