Show HORSES WHICH ARE DECLARED MENACE TO RANGE TO BE eliminated DRIVE BEING PLANNED wild horses of grand county or broom tails as they are commonly known are to be eliminated from local ranges this was decided monday at a meeting of the board of county commissioners ners during recent years unclaimed or abandoned horses have been increasing on grand county winter ranges to an alarming extent and they have become a serious drain on the forage at the present rate of increase the ranges will soon be completely overrun unless steps are speedily taken to eliminate the mustangs por some time past local stockmen stoc kmen have been advocating the conducting of a drive against the broom tails this idea crystallized monday at the meeting of the commissioners who agreed to advance some funds to assist in the work the board appointed G 0 patterson to have charge of a drive against the horses he Is authorized zed to use not to exceed five men with strings of saddle horses who will be paid 5 per day per man for not to exceed twenty days the horses will be rounded up and disposed of in such manner as seems advisable the operation cooperation co of the grand county stock growers association will be secured in disposing of the animals and it Is thought that a market for them can be secured the drive against the wild horses will be conducted pursuant to a law passed by the 1927 legislature which empowers boards of county commissioners to eliminate unclaimed or abandoned horses running on the public range on which taxes have not been paid and which are designated as a public nuisance present at the meeting of the commissioners ners monday were commissioners don taylor mel stewart and R r edwards clerk H W balsley PI P I sheriff 0 C miller considerable routine business was attended to the claim of E M go n for 75 for work on a bridge across the dolores river was denied the surety bond of taylor son for operation of a at thompsons Thomp sons was approved john P shafer was employed to have charge of nece sory repairs and plastering at the co nty court house A collinson on vs health officer and registrar of vital statistics at castleton the dark was authorized to secure two do maps of grand county n was instructed to buy a pr p r for use on the cisco castleton M river roads it was decided not to operate cooperate co with the state in the employment of a regular agricultural inspector in case grand county needs the services of such an expert it will pay for the actual time he Is employed here R L kirk was authorized to apply to uintah county for a refund of grand countes coun tys proportionate share of taxes on the kirk sheep herds which are grazed in both counties |
