Their message was that they wanted the U.S. to not Iranian multiply problems by continued interference. It makes my heart ache to observe that in the matter of the holding of the American hostages their religious leader is so willing to take advantage of the students' great faith and loyalty by considering placing their future and possibly their lives on an altar of hatred and revenge which is the exact opposite of Jesuss teachings that LOVE is the answer to all of mankinds troubles. Their religious leaders violent insistence upon personal vengeance upon the Shah is really a move to usurp the authority of God. The judging of the Shah is Gods responsibility: far more effective than the Iranians anything themselves would be able to mete out. Meanwhile let us all pray that the religious leader will put the matter into the hands of God whose servant he is. Your first option when a problem arises is to do just that to avoid magnifying the problem or calling attention to a matter that doesnt deserve it. In effect, you may be rewarding disruptive behavior by taking notice of it. E End the action. If the childs act demands attention, it is important not to over-reac- t, but to stop the misbehavior. Often a look of the eye can be more effective than a harsh . word. A Attend to it more fully. If the earlier approaches don't work, you may have to attack the problem at the root. Before you do, make sure you have the necessary information to change the childs behavior. What happened? Why did it happen? How the child feels about it is important, too. S Spell out directions. The next step after you have done your research is to decide whether (1) your directions are clearly understood and possible to accomplish and (2) your child realizes the consequences of following, or failing to follow, your directions. Positively reward good behavior when it occurs and make clear the punishment for any future disruptive behavior. T Track your childs progress. Have a way to monitor the progress of your childs behavior. When you have enough information, sit down and discuss that progress or lack of it. Mutually agree on what should happen if the misbehavior improves or if it continues. These are generalizations, which means that you will use your own judgment in supplying the details. But thats the way it should be, since no two children are alike. You, the parent, know best how to apply those generalities. May your relations with your children improve 1,000 per cent at LEAST. Prematurity threatens the health and survival of many newborns. The March of Dimes, working for the elimination of birth defects, encourages early prenatal care to reduce the risk of prematurity. If youre pregnant, think before you drink, says the March of Dimes. Scientists have found that many children bora to women who drink excessively during pregnancy have a pattern of physical and mental birth defects called fetal alcohol syndrome. The March of Dimes urges women to see a doctor as soon as they think they are pregnant. Early, regular prenatal care is vital to a healthy outcome of pregnancy. According to the March of Dimes, birth defects caused by rubella (German measles) can be prevented if women of childbearing age are vaccinated against toe disease before they become pregnant. The Utah Department of Agriculture wishes to alert consumers of an important change in the labeling of processed meat products which could affect their safety. Processed meats traditionally cured with nitrites, such as hot dogs, corned beef, bacon, ham, and cold cuts, may now be produced without nitrites. Unleu consumers carefully read the labels on these products, there could be a significant increase in the number of people seriously iU from botulism food poisoning. Archie S. Hurst, Director of the Division of Food and Consumer Services for the Department says that now for the first time, the meat industry is permitted to manufacture nitrite-fre- e or uncured meat products like hot dogs, ham, corned beef, bacon, and cold cute and label them by their common name (i.e. Uncured Bacon). Prior to this new U.S. Deportment of Agriculture (U.S.D.A.) regulation, hot dogs without nitrite, for example, would have to be labeled uncured cooked uusage. Consumers must now carefully read the labels when they purchase uncured meat products, to make sure they know what they are getting and the proper handling procedures. WithoU nitrites, these products will not keep as long as meat cured with nitrites, and must be handled like fresh meat. Because of the possibility of spUage, you can keep uncured meats in the refrigerator only 4 to 7 days; not 2 to 3 weeks as you can meats that contain nitrites. Nitrites also inhibit the growth of botulism, the most dsngerous and deadly food poison. According to John Poulson, Supervisor of the Food Program for the Department, the Bacteria that causes botulism grows only in the absence of oxygen and other ideal conditions such as warm temperatures. The bacteria which causes botulism may thrive to the interior parts of meat where there is Uttle or no oxygen. You cannot detect botulism by ordinary right and smell So consumers will be able to distinguish which products do not contain nitrites, tbs new regulation says that the labels on nitrite-fre- e products must carry the word Uncured as part of the product name (I.e. Uncured Bacon) and the statement No Nitrate or Nitrite Added. The new regulation also says that the labels of UNCURED meatprotoictamust carry a warning: Not Preserved, Keep Refrigerated Below 40 degrees farenheit at all times. SO REMEMBER, if you buy uncured meats: Keep It Dont let it set on the table or counter; Dont pack tacured meat sandwiches In a brown bag hatch unices you keep tt cold until lunch time. Use meat within 4 to 7 days or follow stance Instructions on the labels of packaged insets. Ftarfartber Information contact: daufia Clark, Utah JjgrtmenlM Agricuftiw, 147 North C West. SLC, Ut. |
