There Isnt a lot of news from the Valley. I guess folks are too busy to be going many places. They are tired from the summers rush and are taking a deep breath before the onset of winter. They are taking a good look at the price of gas and are convincing themselves that they didnt really need that trip after alii Elbert and Francis Porter went to Salt Lake City last week to be on hand for the blessing of a new little granddaughter (baby of Trenna and Dwight The plan Is to conduct coyote control for the protection of deer tn the Blue Mountaln-EL- k Ridge area for the first two years of the study md document the response of these deer herds. Doer populations will then be carried out. There would be no control on either area for the second twu-je- ar segment and then treatments will be reversed. Coyote coo. trol will then be conducted In the LaSal Mcwntain area for the ar third segment, and the effects compared to the Blue Mountain-El- k Ridge herds. After greetings and instructions from the presidency (Lenore Hardy, president and counselors, 11a Gene Esplln and Donna Griffiths), each teacher introduced her department and told a little about the lessons to be given during the winter months. A vocal trio Our Invitation was sung by Lorene Russell, Juolece Hoyt, and Maryllss Heyborne. They were accompanied by Barbara Carrol. One of the vital restrictions to big labr was Section 14b, which allows a state to enact laws that prevent compulsory union membership as a coiw. ditlon of employment. These laws are known as Right to Work Laws, and Arizona and 19 other states have passed them. ma The Gene and Lorene Russell family met in St. George on Sunday afternoon for a family Some of the family reunion. of the late Harold Russell were there from California. Bishop Delbert Palmer and his father-in-la- w Bishop Joesph Bolander attended conference held in Salt Lake City this past week end. Easten and LaVon Blackburn from St. George visited with folks here In town one day last week. The storm of this past weekend was greatly needed and appreciated (even folks who are trying to get a roof on a new home say so), and If I had a thousand words, I could not describe the color of the red vines on the houses and the brilliant yellows of the leaves on the 3wees after a rain storm. If the memories are so we saying might have roses lnDecember Is true, then the beautiful colors of fall will live In my heart and mind the whole year thrI hope you, too, have ough. caught this scene so you might share with others, the memories of the fall of 1976. Unfortunately, recent sentiment In Congress and elsewhere has been to repeal Section 14 b. Enactment of this type of legislation would be most dangerous and disastrous. Advocates of repeal argue that compulsory unionism Is necessary if the union is to surrive. This Is simply untrue. Statutory law protects a unions right to or. ganlze and bargain collectively, The employer must also negotiate with these unions. Compulsory memliershlp In a union, regardless of the worker's wishes, creates an overblown power base for labor bosses and a basic denial of an employees right to choose. If unions were run properly and effectively, their bosses would not be seeking more statutory guarantees to perpetuate their existence. A recent national survey showed that 75 percent of the American public favors retaining Section 14b. The (iuestlon of whether to repeal must favor the concept of uidon control and the denial of a worker's right to Join or not join a union. He also supports the taking of a portion of a worker's paycheck for activities" which the worker heartily disapproves. This may include contributions to political and other cau- ses or exorbitant salaries tor union leaders. Most big labor leaders and the politicians who are supported by them advocate policies of economic Inflation and governmental interference In the lives of the very workers they are supposed to represent. I strongly oppose these efforts to expose the American worker to such unwise and compulsory policies. On the other hand, support of Section 14b will continue the American Ideal of Individual freedom and a free economy must be maintained.
