A good, standard ration for hogs In Ohio is made of corn and a supplement consisting of 50 per cent tankage, or fish meal, 25 per cent alfalfa meal, and 25 per cent linseed oil meal. If good third cutting alfalfa hay is available, the alfalfa meal may be left out of the ration and coarse hay substituted. Hogs are in danger of suffering from anemia in the winter and therefore should be brought in direct contact with sunshine as often as possible, Coffey declares. Large Number of Lambs Marketed Never Docked a Healthy Woman Cleanliness, well mixed rations and proper shelter are three aides upon which a farmer may rely in making economical gains with his pigs, accord-n- g to J. S. Coffey, professor of animal husbandly for the Ohio State university. For profitable pork production it is essential to keep the hog shelter and fqed loj free of worms, he says. A eomfortable, dry shelter, large enough to prevent piling, is also an important help in turning pigs into market hogs. Because the winter ration is likely to be short in minerals a feed should De used which contains a mineral mixture, such as 40 per .cent finely ground limestone, 40 per cent bone meal, and 20 per cent common salt. The ration should contain about 1 per cent of Chis mixture, in Coffeys opinion. His other recommendation is to allow the hogs free access to the mineral mix- The main element in food for cattle and horses is the bulky feeds such as hay, fodder, and, in their absence straw will do. Grain and mill feeds will not take the place of these bulky feeds for live stock and are of secondary importance when it comes to sustaining life and carrying the stock over to a new season. It many communities there are haystacks which have been carried along. Some may have reached a ripe old age, but nevertheless they will sustain life and will come in handy. In many communities there are also strawstacks which, heretofore, have been considered of no value. Ideas as to the value of stock feeds will change of necessity, and straw will sustain life, whether it be of this seasons crop or produced in prior years. Therefore, straw should he carefully conserved in those communities es pecially which are threatened with a feed shortage, or in any community reasonably close to the dry districts, so that it may be had as a bulky feed for the stock this winter. be Budgeting Mice Floor Plan. Mr nt One of the factors which has restricted home building is the popular feeling that a home of your own Is solely the privilege of the moneyed class. Now it is true that one can well invest $15, 000 or $25,000 In a modern home. But it is equally true home can that a comfortable be had for far less money. Those person who are standing on the side lines and watching their neighbors acquire a home of their own ought to open their eyes to the fact that they, too, can build a home which will fit their financial situation. In deciding on the moderately priced home there is no need to resort to shoddy construction. In fact, such a policy can never be considered wiso It Is possible to have a home that is plainly stamped with quality and at the same time keep the investment down to a reasonable figure. A design that will appeal to all who want a home, but who are not abie to build one costing a small fortune is shown here. It has been transformed from plain lines Into a most pleasing contour by the curved window roof treatment, a type of bay window that is sure to please. This effect is accomplished by an overhanging roof, which adds so little to the cost that it seems immaterial when the grace and beauty of the effect is considered. Another touch of adornment is given in the pergola effect at the side. Pergolas are in vogue, very much so, and add a great deal to the pleasing lines of the home. Any woman will be delighted with the interior arrangements, which are compact without being crowded. The living room is a combination living and dining room of splendid size, measuring 27 feet by 15 feet. The kitchen is well planned and the two bedrooms at the rear of the home are a pledge of quiet and convenience. Besides individual closets in the bedroom, provision has been made for a roomy closet for which there are always a thousand uses in every home. The pergola, of course, will be a popular spot during the outdoor weather, and there is also a rear porch which will be useful. Those who adopt this style for their home will have a pleasant place in which to live, and one which may be built without excessive cost. seems to have a natural affinity for the greens, peacock blues and turquoise that were so popular only a couple of years ago, and sets off the stronger blues as well. Gold tones, asnes of roses and delicate pink also make good settings for walnut. In fact, the wood goes well with almost any color except the hot colors red, rose or mauve. The woman who is trying to make her colorful living room a little more liveable will often find that one or two carefully chosen and carefully placed pieces in natural wood finish will bring about the effect she is after.
