Show -- i i 1 I Vk THE PROVO POST - S. Announces Final Older of Eligibility in Calling Out 9,000,000 U. GRAT DEMAND FOR UTILITIES FOR POWER SERVICE The use of electricity for industrial power purposes has increased at a remarkable rate in recent years, and. .simultaneously there has been developed among manufacturers and industrial operators a tendency to attempt to supply their own requirements by means of isolated plants. Even where isolated plants are operated, it. is generally the ease, in the event of an increase in business which demands more power, that the excess equipments are supplied by the purchase of electricity from the central station. The present increased cost of coal, which cost may never go back entirely to its former normal level, is doing much to increase the demand onelectrie utilities for industrial power, for the reason that the utlity is usually in a position to manufacture power at a lower cost than is the industrial corporation with its smaller power station capacity. The strike that was imminent early in the week set people to thinking on this subject and the more they think the more convinced they will become that we arc not developing the power resources of the intenuountain country as we should. Laws looking toward the conservation of our forests and water courses have been reactionary in tbe matter of electricity and as a result we are not making the best of the wondeiful resources of the country. With the coal shortage we have encountered there is no reason why electricity should not take its place even on of this intenuountain country and save the coal for the us- of Uncle Sams battle fleets and to supply our nations allies in the great war. It would release coal for of the people who live more distant flom the coal fields are and desperatlv in need of coalThere is no argument for conservation in the annual wastage of power from the natural waterways of the country. Once gone it is gone forever and the future generations for whom we may think we are conserving will ridicule those of today for knowing of the great resources at our very doors and failing to put forth our hands and coirrert them into the industrial sinews we so sadly lack. -- Washington, Nov. H. The five classes Into which nine million men registered for military dutyand those who are registered hereafter are divided and the order in which they will be called for service were officially announced today in the provost marshal generals questionairre which every registered, man must fill out and file. As a rule the boys are extremely careless and in many ases their carelessness ha? resulted in causing pedestrians no end of trouble. They violate the speed regulations with impunity. In fact, many of the boys seem to feel that down Centhey are doing a big thing in daring to run up and ter street while people dodge from right to left to escape being run over. Only last Sunday abov little ovej ten years old went down Center street at a rate of 15 miles an hour, and at times he even let go of the wheel entirely. These cases have become so frequent that the officers declare they will not only arrest the boys, but will arrest their parents as .well for contributing to the delinquency. They are determined to enforce the law if they have to jail some of the violators. o o Mr. Cluff had. HAIR Dont stay Gray!
