The recommendation was made by Virgil IL Peterson, chairman of the water board, who met re cently with the City Council to discuss the matter. Other members of the board are Joseph E. Smith and Lynn R. Webb, who represents the City Council. Lehi and other communities of the Central Utah area subscribed for water when the Deer Creek project was first started. Lehi's subscription was for 500 acre feet, which it is paying for at the rate of $114 per acre foot over a period of 40 years without interest. Up until now Lehi's share of the water has been rented by the Lehl Irrigation Company, and that company has paid a large share of the assessment The Salt Lake Aqueduct was constructed to supply water to Salt Lake area users. However, at the present time they are not using the full amount which the aqueduct can supply. Mr. Peterson told City Officials that he has been told the city of Orem has contracted with the Salt Lake Metropolitan Water Board to tap into the aqueduct and obtain the amount of water to which that city has subscribed. The contract carries the stipulation that it can be discontinued at any time it is deemed necessary by the Salt Lake Metropolitan Water Board. Lehi authorities were told at one time that Lehi might have the same privilege of tapping the aqueduct, subject to the same stipulations, and the Lehi Water Board has recommended immedi ate annlicatinn. If this water were added to the city's culinary supply and sold to users at the regular rate of 20 cents per thousand gallons, it could bring an income to the city of approximately $30,000 per year. The water would cost the city approximately $1500, plus some maintenance and supply charges. For this reason, the Water Board feels the water is a good buy and they recommend making it available to local users in the regular culinary system. In order to protect the purity qi uie ueer ureeK water, "no trespassing" barriers and floats have been maintained 6000 feet back from the dam. With the regular amount of chlorlnation or purification, it, is considered an excellent supply of culinary water, The Metropolitan Water District takes in all the incorporated area of Lehi City. The district was established at time the Deer Creek project was begun. The Water Board has the authority To Val Watlrins Alpine District To Sponsor Adult Classes kins.
