Cleon Skousen Reprinted from Law and Order Magazine This was the title of a feature article in the New Left Notes for September 20, 1969. Victor Riesel retorted in his column, This isnt dissent, it is a disaster! whole pattern of SDS splinter groups began slithering out across the country like the notorious Greek plagues furtively escaping from some gigantic Pandoras lox. Not at any time in the history of the United States had there been anything quite like it. The bombings of the old I. WAV. had some of the same flavor but not the same strength. The SDS factions broke out into bombings, power-plag (corporation-killing- , dynamitings, they called it), ROTC building-burninstaged rioting, police assaults and police killings. The original development of SDS and its subsequently fractionalizing is graphically told in the Fordliam Law Review for December. 1969. A carefully documented article appears in that issue written by J. Edgar Hoover which is entitled, A Study in Marxist Revolutionary Violence: Students for a Democratic Society, A By Ogden Kraut December 25th marks the date of our nation's most celebrated holiday. Preparations for the observance of this festivity are made for nearly a year in advance. The establishment of this date for the holiday was made by Pope Liberius in 358 A.D. He assumed that the 25th of December was the date that Jesus Christ was born; however, recent scholars and theologians have determined that Christ was born between April 4th and April 8th. Regardless of the correct date of His birth, the proper method of celebrating Christmas or Christ-Maswas to reiterate the stories of Joseph and Mary in Bethlehem, the guiding star, and the visits of the wise men and s, shepherds. The purpose of this celebration was to create, or reaffirm faith, hope, and the true spirit of reverence and worship. Joy and happiness would he the effect of Christmas for all those who helped the poor and comforted the sick or afflicted. Giving aid to the widows, the orphans and the aged would manifest the true spirit of Christmas. Then, token gifts could he given to friends and family, while caroling the songs that retold stories of the birth of Christ. nt sky-scrap- er bank-burnin- g, 1962-1969- ." HOW SDS MUDDIED THE CHANNELS OF LEGITIMATE PROTEST Mr. Hoover feels that one of the most damaging aspects of the fanatical revolutionaries is their pollution of all available channels of legitimate dissent. deSince the American system of pends so completely upon the reservation of room for discussion and dissent, it is part of the conspiratorial strategy to get Americans to over-reaand close off channels of dissent to the point where the radical Left can force all forms of protest into their camp. Mr. dloover urges that bv carefully marshalling our facts and avoiding name-callin- g and hysteria we can prevent extremist reaction from taking over. This will be of vital importance in the coming months and years because the level of provocation is expected to reach a fever pitch. SDS and its confederates are planning it that way. From its inception, SDS is now known to have been designed as a deceptive device to lay the groundwork for overt revolutionary violence in the United States. As we mentioned in the last article, SDS was created in 1962 by the League for Industrial Democracy (LID is a powerful and influential W. Cleon Skousen self-governm- ct organization which has been operating in the United States since 1905). As soon as LID could boast that its SDS youth groups had become the largest intercollegiate society on the American campus, SDS was an independent entity. It was separated from LID in 1965 so the parent orstatus. Imganization would not lose its mediately after the cutting of the umbilical cord, SDS launched into a frantic campaign of political propaganda and political activism. Before long the familiar faces of e Communist comrades, schooled in revolutionary tactics as far back as the Thirties, began to openly particiy meetpate in SDS conventions and ings.
