The second judged event of the day was the Trail Event, the toughest event of the day. There were also 41 kids from Monticello and Blanding heating up the arena during the third horse show of the year. The high temperature didnt seem to have much effect on M the participants and their steeds as they competed in five events throughout the day. The day started off with each participant taking a test on horse care. High scores on the test in the Junior Class were a tie between Jade Grover and Loren Randall. In the Intermediate Class, Jordan completed each obstacle. Each class trail design was built to meet the abilities of the class. The Senior Class trail was the most difficult and the Mini Class the least. The single Blue Ribbon in the Senior Class Trail Event went to Karah Shumway. All other Senior class participants received a Red Ribbon. Winner in the Mini Class (lass winner U Trevor Palmer, Daylen Holt and Lauren Randall. In the Intermediate ('lass, were completed, the heat really picked up as each show participant readied their horses for the two speed events of the day. The first event was the Quadrangle Stake Race. This course is set in a 75 foot square with a pole at each corner. Two more poles, ten feet apart, are placed in the center as both the start and finish line. Riders are timed as they work their way through the pattern. Winner of the Junior Class Quadrangle Stake Race is Erica Grover, followed by Jacob Regalado and Trevor Palmer. The final event of the day was the Barrel Race. Barrel Racing is a popular event for all participants and that was quite obvious from all the cheering and encouragement given to each racer by their fellow participants. Winner in the Intermediate Barrel Race Event is Kyson Shumway, followed by Jessi Palmer and Jacob Hatcher. Unofficial High Point winners of the day were; Mini Class: Melody Hatcher, followed by Justin Nielson, Matthew Benson, Amanda firs goes to Kyson Shumway followed by Jacob Hatcher and JJ Grover. Two-Hande- d The August 12 4HMini Horse Show will be the final show of the year. The Tuesday at 10 am event is in conjunction with the San Juan County Fair. This will be an Open Show, which means it is open to 4H members and to those not currently participating in the 4 II program. Five events are planned, including Showmanship at the Halter, Western Horsemanship, Western Riding, Barrels and Poles. Rosettes and Ribbons will be given for winners in each class for each event and for overall point winners from the show. Adults are also invited to participate at the show.
