friends tor for two or three weeks I 1 alhambra california august 14 1933 t tallest a 11 st the empire state building being OT stories orlea high the material used in this building would fill a train 57 miles long it contains windows 3 1000 1 phones over 1200 elevator doors and 67 elevators they fly ly upward at the rate 0 of f feet or cr 80 stories in one ml minute nute it stands so high that thatis it sways a yes at the I 1 top and Is the crown to all miracles in I 1 its line another wonderful thing to see I 1 la is times square at night we also visited coney island new yorks museums etc I 1 visited mends friends in brooklyn they showing me all the wonderful sights there on the our boat the europa left at midnight it Is the fastest and one of the largest boats afloat traveling about 30 miles an hour arriving on the other side in live five days I 1 went by rail all the way from park city to germany first I 1 went by rail to the boost boat and from there on I 1 had to lean up against the rail being seasick again of course the airplanes on the boat leave from the steamers deck miles from the coast by catapult landing in europe after a six hours flight bringing mall mail to its destination one day before the boat arrives what we call good service ce on arriving in cherbourg Cher bourg no one came to me hanging beels around my neck but of course this Is not hawaii the next place I 1 visited was parts paris the home of the notre dame cathedral grave ot of napoleon and ana tha great eiffel tower at one tune time the highest structure in the world until the chrysler and the empire state buildings were erected this Is the country where you see men kissing each ther other e at Reth the parlor ear car still stands it was here that the allies and the german spokesmen had their first meeting which led to the armistice in november 1918 the wounds of the war are still visible in verdun st quenton and reins where boero its famous cathedral was demolished a new roof new chimney new shed here and there which have been re replaced placed since then man has advanced so tar far in every line in modes of transportation and in the air on the water on tires and on rails he has progressed in electrical apall ancas radio sound recording and lino line types yes and thousands of others though less important developments ye yet t wh when n I 1 k not it comes to shedding blood he has as not progressed men lien on both sides praying that return to their loved ones in iri safety and those at home continually tearing fearing that he wont if there should ever come a time tl me that id be asked to go I 1 chope hope that it will bo be for the protection of our homes and that only and not tor for the settling of disputes of foreign countries or for cap alises who have investments there all of europe Is laughing at america because we lost the war financially binand a ily and they have not the means to pay us back yet at the same time they do have bes means dese to build things that are destructive again the next place I 1 visited was switzerland A trip there Is made doubly attractive by its scenery and its customs here I 1 first visited our church headquarters 1 president Salz rier has charge 0 of f it he was our contractor when we built our new i shoe store here in palk paik city I 1 stayed there a few days recuperating as I 1 was rather sickly at the time commodities are too high there for the wages which 1 I they receive and about fifteen per cent of the laborers wage Is deducted Ts to encourage I 1 building a new home Is reee free I 1 from taxes for ten years I 1 visited the I 1 well known castle end and university of 1 heidelberg we also saw their famous cel oblation on may where they were both lit up at night and sky rockets shooting in the air feet where burst and display all colors for one hour you are never safe without vit hout an umbrella over there I 1 was told that duelling buelling du elling Is r till still a big thing there though in secret and how bow proud they are of scars they will even add halt bait to a scar which makes I 1 it larger and cuts in deeper to ride the trains Is inexpensive and give wonderful service but my those benches ore are hard bard the value of our dollar at the present time Is about 55 cents and since then the american tourist trade ls is in 1923 when I 1 was in germany things were just the opposite 1 I 1 received 11 billion marks tor for a dollar it being worth about two and one half dollars very few houses have bath rooms over there and the whole city goes to the schools or bath house on an saturday where they can be accommodated I 1 germany thinks hitler Is if alright he 1 having even denied the usual wages which are allowed him he Is also artele a strict I 1 vegetarian drinks no beer or whiskey whisk sy and does not smoke or chew tobacco coThey they are surely working hard bard trying to make con coni i editions better just as aa president roosa velt is doing here all followers of hitler do not buy from jews jewes anymore saying that the jews have ruled germany long enough with their money I 1 stood |
