The senate election committee, to-day, investigating the Caldwell case, decided, after considerable consider-able debate and a secret consultation, to insist on the production of the letter between ex-governor Carney and ex-congressman ex-congressman Sidney Clark. It gives details of the corrupt bargains in the Caldwell election, and closes with an expression that an investigation should be made. The defenco attempted ineffectually in-effectually to show a difference between the statements in Carney's letter and his sworn f-tatements, but failed. A long and tedious cross examination was only confirmatory of the testimony already disclosed, that a groat deal of money changed hands at tho election now under un-der investigation.
