john weiler and came to utah in 1868 finishing his journey with ox teams team he went to skull valley then to richmond cache valley afterward back to skull valley where he became blind and at last moved to G deceased leaves a wife four sons none one daughter twenty grandchildren and six great grandchildren he left behind a host or friends who hope hat he may rest in peace until the resurrection of jesus christ of latter day in the spring of 1840 at WiX elburne WL burne urne england by elder fido and was confirmed under the hands of elder wilford woodruff was ordained a priest and sent out to to preach the everlasting gospel as aa revealed through the prophet joseph Smi thin which lie labored faithfully fluth fully and very successfully until he reached the valleys in 1854 w where here by his faith and indomitable energy and biskind his kind and charitable disposition he bedeared his name and memory to his numerous family and a host of loving friends his was an honored life well spent nov 1 1814 he came from england to the united states when about 22 years of age joined the church february 1842 came to butah utah in the fall of 1847 he performed a to england from 1852 to 1856 and to cache valley in the spring ef cf 1859 taking up his residence in nevada where he has since resided up to his death which transpired on the ath dinst he held many important positions both civil and ecclesiastical eccle lotical which he be filled with honor many attended the funeral from logan and other placer he leaves a wife three daughters and two sons son and upwards of thirty grandchildren he died as he be had lived a faithful latter day saint he held the office of patriarch when he died ALFRED GARDNER ABRAM SHAW sep 11 1895 abram shaw sr an aged veteran of glenwood glen wood pawed passed from this life on the morning of sept kept 1 he has for some time resided with his family on their farm near glenwood early on the morning of sept I 1 he arose and left the house bouse before any others awoke As soon as his absence was discovered a search was set up and he was soon found dead about one hundred yards from the house in a marshy spring in the river bed deceased would have been 87 years old next december consequently was very feeble and unable to extricate himself from the marsh it being early in the morning he became chilled and this with overexertion over exertion caused his bis death he was ba baptized sized into the church of jesus christ of tatter latter day saints in 1841 and emigrated from england in 1842 wilh one of the first mor mon man emigrations emig rations he passed through the trials and persecution a with the saints in the states and in 1851 came to utah and settled in provo he lived there until 29 years ago ched he moved to glenwood and resided there until his death he leaves a wife ten children and forty two grandchildren to follow his bis example as a faithful saint and an honest worker SHAW GEORGE 3 BARKER our oar community has its principles elder george S barker departed deported this life at ogden utah ou the aud and day of september 1895 through the accidental kick of a borne HO he left a wife five children an aged father fa her brot brother sisters and ft A boat of friends to mourn his bis loss george 8 barker was born at ogden utah april 20 1857 and grew up in hit bin native place an honest industrious and most exemplary man he filled various positions ot of trust ecclesiastical and otherwise in weber county and in the spring ot of 1893 1898 took a mission to the southern Sout bern states state he presided over the west virginia conference during the greater part of his time abroad and filled a very successful mission he had been back home but a few months when he be was so suddenly taken off in 1881 he marri married eri alice whitney by whom he had four boys and one girl who survive him ranging rangin in age three to thirteen years vears the rh funeral was hold held at the mound fort ward CAROLINE AMELIA WEBB fillmore city utah sept 6 1895 fillmore again mourns the loss ot of another or of her esteemed citizens mrs caroline amelia webb who was born in trumbull county Ohto july ath 1821 and died september 1st ast 1895 she was the daughter of james clark owens and abigail cordelia burr and united with the church of jesus christof latter lat ter day saints in the spring of 1834 at far west missouri having been baptized by george M hinkle she bhe passed through all the trials and ana persecutions of tile the saints in missouri and illinois in the year 1839 she became the wile wife of edward milo webb she was one of the many who were driven from illinois Illino iq and fled to winter quarters and from thence re moved to missouri in the spring of 1847 in the year 1852 in company with her husband and family bhe began the weary journey to utah her husband was suddenly attacked with cholera and died on the platte river thus leaving his bis wife and children in that wilder i 1 ess of america but with that undaunted courage which was one of her chief characteristics she abe continued her journey onward to the valleys and settled at big cottonwood and from there removed to payson utah county in 1854 she removed to fillmore where she has resided continuously with the exception of one year which she spent to in salt lake city in the year 1856 she was married to bishop alexander Alexa Inder mcrae of the issue of that marriage there are two children her descendants are eight children seventy one grandchildren and forty eight great grandchildren one hundred and eleven of whom survive her she died as she had lived in full faith in the gospel and of the glorious future that awaits the faithful of gods god s children co coat coa A JOHN neway died august 17 1895 at ogden utah john noway newey son of john noway newey and Eliza elizabeth bh greenfield elder newey wao wae born in Worp leedon county of surrey england on the day of january 1806 embraced the gospel in his native land bif 1858 and during the two succeeding years that he remained in england contributed largely for the comfort and support of the traveling elders many ot of whom found in him a true friend and an ardent supporter and not a lew few made headquarters at his bis house and received a hearty heany welcome in february 1855 he adjusted his bis business and after paying his tithing on a large sin sum m of money which he had accumulated while in the railway service for seventeen y aars akars he be turned over the residue to the authorities of the church h to be applied in purchasing father new newey ey hits has been a zealous laborer for the cause of truth he has figured conspicuously in the establishment of home in ous cus tries having introduced the first barding machine that was used in the territory in fact he always has baa been on band both with his mearis means and his bis in fluence to assist in every lap laudable dable enterprise which would tend to the temporal or spiritual advancement of the people of god president young received rec elved many favors from his bis hands in early days and a strong and lasting friendship sprang up between them the establishment of a 9 carrying company the emigration of the poor helping to defend the people during the johnsons army crusade the erection of educational institutes institute i and the building of temples might be mentioned as some of the chief objects of his notice being ot of a benevolent and generous disposition it wa 4 impossible tor for him bun to withhold favor from even a stranger in consequence of which his bis whole life was devoted to 10 the good of others from which source he seemed to derive his greatest pleasure and satisfaction sati efte being of an unassuming and retiring nature he lived a quiet life and while he was not a man of display or ganv words he has exemplified the gospel by his bis life work and has endeared himself to all who had the plea pleasure tsure of knowing him the last seven years of his life was was rendered tedious and lonesome through the loss of his bis sight eight but the cheerful pleasant disposition which had characterized his whole life did not desert him even then and the habit of industry seemed to assert itself more strongly than ever hence his hia last days were made useful and comparatively happy elia bua faith in the gospel was unwavering and his reverence for the authorities of the church faai wasi most sacred during daring the two weeks illness 1111 ness that preceded his 1 demise he suffered considerable but bui bore bor e it all with his bis characteristic patience feeling that thai his life work was done and that he bad fought the good fight and kept the faith knowing that henceforth there wax was laid up for him a crown of righteousness he often remarked that he did not fear the end edd that he was ready to meet his blis maker he passed away as one that draws the drapery of his couch about him and lies down to pleasant
