Show CREW OF SCHOONER SLAIN I Massacred by Natives on the Island of Mallicc Now Hebrides Group Victoria B C Juno 9lews was brought by the steamer Moana which arrived today from Australia of the murder of the members of the crew of a labor schooner In the New Hebrides The murder took place at the island of Malllce where Bishop Sclwyn was attacked at-tacked and had a narrow escape in 1851 and many murders have since taken ta-ken place But a few months ago Capt Asmus Atkins was shot dead there and more recently other partIes were attacked at-tacked The schooner Marie Henry Capt Gaspard anchored off Bushmans bay Noel Bcltarl a Frenchman and a Kanaka landed to recruit naval labor The two men assembled a number of natives and everything seemed peaceable peace-able when suddenly they were attacked at-tacked and though they fought hard for their lives acre overcome by numbers num-bers and killed The bodies of the men were riddled with bullets rifles having been placed within a few Inches of their bodies The French cruiser Muertho and the British gunboat Archer have gone In punish the natives who stampeded to the bush |
