Show BILL ILL introduced TO MAKE SCHOOL OFFICE appointive A bill was introduced ced in the U I 1 house as of representatives by will L hoyt which would take the office of state superintendent of public instruction out of politics to and make it an ail a appointive P poin tive office this Is in line with recommendations have been made on several occasions by educators of the state and by the utah education association under mr hofts plan the governor would continue to name the members of the state board of education which in turn would appoint the superintendent mr hoyt would eliminate the provision making it mandatory that the president of the university of utah and the utah state agricultural college be members of the state board slid and could increase the personnel of the board from six to eight members the superintendent would no longer be an ex chairman of tho the board sitting merely as a ninth member under mr hofts plan the board would be allowed to elect its own chairman and vice chairman mr hoyt also proposes to change the power of appointment by the governor to fill a v vacancy ac in the th s office of a tate state super superintendent ln permitting the legislature to to authorize the appointment by the state bord of education it if it desires |
