TOUR INVOLVEMENT IN FISHLAKE PLANNING The Forest is asking you to help determine what issues the Forest Plan will address. Periodically reports or other information will be issued concerning the status of the planning and the preparation of the accompanying Environmental Impact Statement. Public involvement will include personal contacts, open houses, public workshops, letters, and other printed matter including news releases. You are encouraged to respond by letter to Forest news releases that will appear during the planning process. PUBLIC MEETINGS SEPTEMBER 3, 1980 You, the public, have many opportunities to participate in putting together the Fishlake Forest Plan. Four general meetings will be held at the following places: Fillmore Ranger District, 390 S. Main, Fillmore; Beaver Ranger District, 190 N. 100 E., Beaver; and Richfield Ranger District, 55 S. 100 E., Richfield, Utah, 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., September 3; Loa Ranger District held their meeting in conjunction with the Teasdale Ranger District of the Dixie National Forest at the Wayne High School lunch room, 55 N. Center, Bicknell, 7:00 to 10:00 p.m., August 12 and 13. You may also wish to attend one of the public workshops, tentatively planned for summer 1981, where you can contribute to formulating alternatives for consideration in the final phase of the planning process. Times and places for these meetings will be announced in news papers. Tentative plans are to hold workshops in Richfield, Junction, Delta, Beaver, Loa, and Fillmore. SCREENING CRITERIA FOR ISSUES The Fishlake National Forest is actively engaged in determining issues for the Forest Plan. By filling in and returning the response from you can participate in this determination. All potential issues will be screened against the following four criteria. The criteria are designed so that a no answer to any of the four questions indicates that the issue cannot be dealt with in the Forest Plan. Criterion 1. SCOPE: Is the issue located on the Fishlake N.F. or influenced by Forest activities? 2. Explain what makes this an issue and why it bothers you. 3. What is your suggestion for resolving the issue? 4. What is your opinion of consequences if this issue is not resolved? 5. Criteron 2. DURATION: Will the issue continue after June 1981? Issues or concerns that will be resolved prior to that time are considered short term and will not be included in the Forest Plan. Criterion 3. RESOLVABILITY: Can the issue be resolved within the authority of the Fishlake N.F.? Or, does the state of the art allow for its resolution? Criterion 4. STATUS: Does the issue require additional analysis under the NEPA and NFMA process? This has been written to provide you with a brief summary of the planning effort and to gain input and suggestions.
