PG Batters Defeat Jordan 12-- 7 in UBAL Action by Dean Von Memmott By winning 12-- 7 over the Jordan Beetdiggers' er team at Jordan July 13, the Pleasant Grove Vikings showed that they could rebound from devastating losses like the July 10 doubleheader that they had dropped to the American Fork Cavemen. In going 3-- 4 .at the plate July 13, Tyler Harmon turned out to be one of the biggest guns for the Vikings as he produced six RBI, courtesy of a single, double and a grand slam. Har-mon's single brought in McKay Walker in the first inning. Jordan took a brief 2-- 1 lead in the second on Nate Vitti sacri-fice fly and a Marquez Guiterrez single. Singling in Zach Hicken in the top of the third, Mitch Merrill touched off a three-ru- n rally for Pleasant Grove. Even though an Al Fife, one-ru- n single moved Jordan within 4-- 3 in the bottom of the third, Harmon doubled in a run in the fourth to set off a three-ru- n rally. After Jordan had puiled within 7-- 5 in the fourth, Harmon hit his grand slam in the fifth to complete his work of destruction against the Beet-digger- s. Viking Parker Bull-ock's seventh-innin- g sacrifice groundout brought Merrill in for an insurance run. Pitcher Colton Sheriff kept the Beetdiggers from scoring more than one run in the bottom of the seventh. PG A's Finish 2nd in Timp Colt League Playoffs by Dean Von Memmott With some now former Pleasant Grove Viking play-ers on their roster, the Pleasant Grove A's took second in the Timp Colt League playoffs. In the tournament's championship game at American Fork's Ro-tary Park July 14, the American Fork Cardinals defeated the A's 11-- 3. Doubling in the top of the first, Pleasant Grove's McKay Hartle scored the game's first run on a steal. American Fork answered it with a five-ru- n rally started by Taison Smith's one-ru- n single in the bottom of the first. While holding the A's scoreless in the second and third innings, American Fork tacked on another four runs on a Matt Ludlow homer and two doubles in the bottom of the second. The A's held the Cardinals scoreless until the fourth when Ludlow held a two-ru- n. Pleasant Grove didn't let the Cardinals make any further runs. In the top of the fourth, Pleasant Grove's Austin Mc- Donald knocked in two runs on an homer. Hitting a fifth-innin- g single, teammate Zach Lewis scored on an Amer-ican Fork error. In the seventh, Lewis singled in University of Utah-boun- d Sefa Tonai, who had hit a right-fiel- d double at the start of the inning. The A's couldn't overcome the Cardi-nals stiff defense. p uv i.miij,,.., ,.i.,,i......ii . 1. .. . --gn mil,. --i ' - Advertise your classic car here. Only $10 per week, for classified Ads.
