Show FRIDAY, APRH UTAH EMERY COUNTY PROGRESS, CASTLE DALE, PAGE EIGHT Huntington Department Mr3. Blanch Green entertained at a quilting party at her home Wednesday. A group of relatives and friends were present and refreshments served. Mr. and Mrs. Blair Guymon spent several days visiting at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Guymon. Blair is on a short furlough. He has been stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky, and his wife has been with him. They left Monday morning, and will visit her people in Nephi and Salt Lake. Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Guymon accompanied them to Salt Lake. Another soldier and wife, who have been visiting here, are Mr. and Mrs. Dale Nielson, at the home of her mother, Mrs. Minerva Guymon. Sunday evening Mrs. Carl Seely, of Castle Dale, entertained relatives in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Nielson. Monday evening Mrs. Guymon entertained for the young left Tuesday couple. They morning. Mr. and Mrs. Alma Palmer, are visiting at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jjeo Palm er. Alma was one of the first boys to enlist with the armed forces from Huntington. Dale Robbins and Mr. Zen Jenson left Sunday afternoon for Logan, where they will report for duty with the armed forces. Willis Howard, Scott Nielson, Jack Nielson and Ross Wick-maleft Tuesday morning to Join the armed forces. Those spending the week end in Salt Lake were Mr. and Mrs. Levor Black, Mrs. Lola Jean Laws, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Brasher, Mr. and Mrs. H. D. Rowley, Mr Heber P. Brockbank. MOORE Relief Society was held Tuesday with the Theology lesson being given by Mrs. Retta Olsen and Mrs. Zenna Crawford. Mrs. Olsen also igave the teachers topic lesson. Bishop Homer Edwards and Stanley Allen attended General Conference in Salt Lake City the first of the week. Mrs. Allen and family accompanied them, as far as Provo, where they spent the time visiting at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Keith. Mrs. Mary Allen also went with them as far as Alberta, where she stopped of to visit with her daughter, Mrs. Esther Barney, Chester Larsen of Bethlehem, Penn., who has been visiting at the home of his paxents, Mr. and Mrs. John F. Larsen, left here last Friday morning for his home. His wife the former Mary Ellen Albertsen is staying on for a longer visit with Mr. Larsens parents, and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marion Albertsen, of Emery. John F. Larsen, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. John F. Larsen, Sr, and daugh- ter of Mr. and Mrs. Felix Nor- ville, of Edinburg, Illinois, were married in Ferron Tuesday afternoon by Hyrum Huntsman. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Larsen were the witnesses at the ceremony. A wedding diance is planned for Friday night to which everyone is Invited. The city has turned their large pile of scrap metal, gathered during the scrap drive, over to the school that they might have the proceeds for the building of a public library. Train cars will be here Saturday for loading the metal and It must all be loaded by Monday. It is urgently necessary for everyone obtainable to be there Saturday to help as after Monday an extra charge will be made for holding the cars. So it is asked that everyone be there. It is also felt by many citizens that if we really tried Greenriver could do much more in gathering scrap metal and as we all know that it is so very greatly needed by Uncle Sam to lick the Axis and win this war, while also at the same time add to our community a library that is really a necessity here. So lets all do our share and be there Saturday to help get that metal where it will do the most good, and then why not stait another scrap drive and really get all there is, put everything we have into it. April 19, on Monday evening the Public Health Nurse will be here to organize a clinic which will also Include Prenatal and Infant care. All parents are urged to attend and do all they can to get it organized. The information will be given free and it Is hoped for a good attendance so that the Public Health Nurse will be able to come once a week during the summer months. Everyone is invited to attend and in these times when good health is so badly needed everyone should be interested enough in the health of their children to get this organization started and then to keep it going. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hatt took a truck load of steers to Grand Junction Friday to the auction sale there. The steers brought $70. It was also stated tnat brood sows were selling there for $60, young yews for $21; horses for $95 and $85, and colts for $25 a piece. Mr. and Mrs Arthur Ekker also attended the auction. Andy Moore and Delbert Tidwell were In from desert Monday and stated that the conditions there were terribly severe. That because of such a dry winter and no moisture this spring there was little and no feed for the cattle and sheep, and also a scarcity of water; that things there were really in a critical condition. pre-scho- ol Frank Hatt attended commis- sioners meeting at Castle Funeral services were held Thursday, April 1st, for Charles A. Oviatt. The speakers were: Louis P. Oveson, Bishop Wm. Eden and Bishop Samuel N. Alger. Prayers were offered by Wilburg Rugg and Harris F. Mortensen. George H. Oviatt dedicated the grave. Mrs. Anna C. Oviatt, who is 87 years old, motored from Ogden to attend her sons funeral and intends to stay with some of her children until after decoration day. Her birthday was the 7th of the month. Sheldon Lee Childs, who has been in the U. S. Naval hospital in San Diego, California, for sometime, has a medical discharge and is home. Mrs. Bert Oviatt, Byron Oviatt and Dee Oviatt were business visitors in Castle Dale Monday. Oran Willson attended conference at Salt Lake City. Mr. Gray, who has been farming the Percy Axelsen farm, is moving his family to the Summit, where he has employment. Lue Brown has bought the Percy Axelsen farm. Mr. Rugg and family returned to Salt Lake City Wednesday. They entertained some of the young folks Monday night, treating them with home made candy. Fawn Chaffin arrived home In good condition Saturday from the Price hospital where he has spent the past two weeks. A very successful Post Prom was held last' Saturday evening and a igood crowd enjoyed dancing to the very good orchestra music of the new nine-pieorchestra under the direction of Hazel Ekker. Dorian Christiansen made a trip to Price Saturday and brought his wife home from the hospital, where she has been the last two weeks recovering from a recent operation. Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Tidwell made a business trip to Price Tuesday. Bishop Burnett left Sunday evening to attend the annual spring conference at Salt Lake City, and also to remain for the dedication of the Salt Lake City Temple Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Babe Tasker and daughter, Peggy, left last Sunday for Sacramento, California, to visit Mrs. Taskers son, Pat Gahagan, who recently enlisted In the navy and is stationed there at present, before leaving soon for duty overseas. Pvt. Boyde Hunt of the U. S. Army, now receiving training In Oregon, arrived home Tuesday on a two weeks furlough to visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elias Hunt. The Bethany Chapter No. 90 E. Raymond Watson, of the tank division of the army, stationed in California. Raymond, who makes his home with his aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Owen Huntsman, spent several days of his furlough here. His aunt entertained at open house for him at her home Thursday afternoon. Pvt. Royal Nelson of the Intelligence division of the Infantry of Uncle Sams Army is spending this week at home on a furlough from Camp Whiting, Oregon. He is a son of Mrs. Ethel Nelson. Mrs. Lawrence Mr. and hhve announced Christensen the marriage of their daughter Melba to Pvt. C. D. Popkes, son of Mr. and Mrs. B. W. Popkes of Seattle, Washington. The couple were married at Fort Worth, Texas, on March 27, 1943, where Mr. Popkes is with the army. Mrs. Rulon Nelson and little daughter are visiting relatives in Oakland, California.
