Brad Ness of S & S Specialties arrived at the home of Sanpete Centennial Chairman May Peterson, carefully toting the commemorative rifle. Only 00 of the guns were made, and the committee purchased number five. After much consideration, the committee has decided on a creative way to find a new owner for the gun. During the first half of the 996 Centennial year, balls will be held throughout the county. The purchase of a ball ticket will entitle the holder of the ticket entry for a door prize. The Henry Rifle, being the grand door prize, will be given away at the Sanpete County Fair in August. 1 1 Residents throughout the county are welcome to purchase tickets for the balls in each community. Mt. Pleasant will host the first ball of the year for New Years. Manti will hold their Military Ball in February, followed by Gunnisons Ball in March with the Joe Muscolino band. Linda Sappington, the Statehood Southern Utah Regional Consultant, was impressed that the committee had the foresight to purchase the rifle and come up with a creative way to give it away, as the initial raffle idea was quickly disbanded as an illegal activity in the State of Utah. Although the 4440 Uberti Henry is built to handle modern smokeless ammunition and can deliver accuracy at distances farther than the naked eye can see, it is certain that the lucky winner of the door prize will want to keep it untouched as a valuable collectible of the Utah Centennial.
