Show Gen Hazen Arraigned I Y 8IIIXGTON 11The general conrtmartial convened for the trial of I Gen Hazen Chief Signal Officer of the army me at this city this morning Gen Hancock presiding Counsel for Gen Hazen challenged BrigadierGeneral Mc Feely as a member of the court on the ground of unfriendly relations between them growing out of his Hazens criticisms criti-cisms of the subsistance department of the army of which Gen McFeely is head when he Hazen was endeavoring endeavor-ing to = abolish the system of post traderships in the army The court sustained sus-tained the challenge and the accused waived the right to further challenge Gen Hazen was then arraigned and through his council demurred to the specifications spec-ifications to the charge alleging that ho criticised and impugned the propriety of the action of the Secretary of War in refusing re-fusing to send a sealing vessel to the relief of the Greeley party after the failure of the Proteus eqpedition in the fall of 83 The court overruled the demurrer and the I accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and several specifications J I J |
