Show Russell Named New Dixie Nat'l Forest Supervisor CEDAR CITY - Robert A. Russell, a seasoned employee of the Forest Service with a wide background in natural resource management, has been selected to lead the Dixie National Forest, announced Regional Forester Jack Troyer this week. He succeeds Mary Wagner, who transferred to the agency's Washington, DC headquarters in February. Russell will start his new assignment in mid-June. Russell is currently a staff officer on the Salmon-Challis National Forest, headquartered in Salmon, Idaho, where he has overseen forest programs ranging rang-ing from recreation and range management to wildlife, fisheries fish-eries and watershed management manage-ment for the last seven years. Russell's 32-year career includes service as a hydrologist on four national forests in New Mexico, Arizona and Colorado, and district ranger on districts in Grand Junction and Fort Collins, Colorado and Salmon, Idaho. Recently, Russell has been called upon to provide leadership leader-ship during temporary management manage-ment vacancies on several Forest Service units. He has served as Acting Deputy Forest Supervisor of the Boise National Forest, Acting Forest Supervisor t , - I:' ' ' ' l Rob Russell of the Salmon-Challis National Forest, and Acting Manager of the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area outside Las Vegas. Russell, a native of Colorado, hold a master's degree in Environmental Studies from the University of Montana and a BS in Forestry from Colorado State University. Avid outdoor recreationists, Russell and his wife Nancy breed and raise llamas for back-country back-country packing.
