Th Republican journals commend highly the voles of the Right and Lett Centre, ; etterday, againl the restoration of the monarchy. They say that it bhuws monarchy is impossible. The Or- leauUt journals consider the action of Assembly leaves the situation unchanged, bet think the consequence will be a consolidation of McMahou's powers. In the Assembly, on reading the journal of yesterday "s prtccedingi, to-da- , eight miles cast of this city, the former armed with a shot-gu- n and two and the latter with a navy pistols, and fought one of the most desperate duels ou record. After several shots Hellers fell, bleediug from three painful wounds, one in ther right shoulder, another in the right temple, and a third in the upper lip, and Patterson retired with a ball iu his left side. The following are the facts : 'Patterson was living with' and working for one of the Sellers. On Saturday last he purchased a new suit of clothes, and on Sunday morning A. J. Sellers desired to try them on. This Pattcrsou objected to, but still Sellers insisted that he would, and Patterson straightway went at it. then snatched the clothes from Sellers and said that no gentleman would act in that way. This Sellers promptly resented by writing Patterson out to fight him. PatteiEon declined the invitation, alleging that Sellers was too large for him, and that he had a crippled hand. Sellers then proposed to fight it out some other way. This Patterson agreed to, saying that he would be ready next day. The next morning, Monday, Sellers seeing Patterson on the 8treet, armed himself, and approaching him asked, "Are you ready ?" Patterson replied. "Not yet; but I will be evening at 5 o'clock." Sellers replied, "All right; I will be here at that time," and then went back home. Patterson came to Jackson on Monday, purchased a navy 6ix, had it carefully loaded, and returned to Cotton Grove without saying anything to anybody about his intentions. The people of Cotton Grorc looked upon it as a piece of braggadocio that would cod in wind. But promptly to tho hour ou Tuesday evening, Patterson and Sellers approached each other from opposite directions, armed as above stated. When within thirty yards of each other both came to a halt, Sellers leveling his gun, and ordering Patterson to throw down his pistol Patterson refused to obey, saying that Sellers had him at a disadvantage, but he fired on Sellers instantly with effect.
